Ishapore rifles.

Any comments on Ishapore .308 rifles? Are they decent rifles, all things considered? I wouldn't mind picking up a couple as beater rifles to shoot surplus .308 ammo. I saw a few at a gun show last year for $100, but I passed on them because I didn't know anything about them. Now I'm kicking myself for not grabbing one. Should I be?

Ishapore .308 rifles

Go for it, they are an excellent buy. Battle proven design, but made with stronger steel to handle the higher pressure of the .308 round. Plus they've not seen combat for the most part, because they were made for the Indian police so they could have ammo compatibility with their military. Their military were using FN-FALs in .308 caliber. (The inch pattern if I'm not mistaken, like the other Commonwealth nations)
Hope this helps, I've got one and really like it.

I've got one, and I really like it. I think that it is probably the best $100 gun there is. I have named mine Big Ugly.

Function has been great, accuracy has been ok. But I've only shot the nastiest green military surplus through it, and I've never benched it, so I can't really tell you about its pure accuracy.

A friend of mine has a few surplus Mausers, I prefer the Ishipore over the Mausers.

They are heavy, but if 12 rounds of .308 can't kill what ever your shooting at, you can always beat it too death with this gun. It makes a good club. :)
