Ishapore 7.62 - question on glass

So in a few hours I'll be picking up this Ishapore in 7.62 NATO. I had been toying with the idea of a future Remington 700 build, really interested in something like a Manners chassis system or the like, but that will be FAR FAR AWAY in the future. In the meantime, I was thinking of getting into optics for this rifle as the others I have will be as ill-suited as this specimen! A couple of questions though...

I have heard mixed feelings in regards to the accuracy of these rifles. I am not a precision rifle shooter (yet, anyway) so I am not expecting to even be able to get into the whole 1 MOA slice of life for some time. So my first question is: Is it worth it to invest in an optics system for this rifle?

I have been looking into mounts and http://www.gunaccessories.com/MilitaryScopeMounts/Enfield/index.asp looks somewhat promising. It is going to give me the shortest eye relief which is important to me as my eye sight is pretty terrible, even at my young age. I know I won't be paying much less anywhere for something like this. My second question: Considering it would be worth the optics, would this mount suffice? Will it hold zero after taking a beating?

My last question is... What kind of glass and at what price point should I be willing to invest in? I know that most say to spend a little money in this department, and I wouldn't mind doing so, but only for as far as the whole setup would be worth. I know that even the most expensive scope will never counteract the inherent lower accuracy.

Thanks, ya'll!
