Is your EDC the gun you fire most or the simpler to use?

My preference is DA/SA with decocker but not all put the slide release in the same place like Sigs. Some others will have safeties so for simplicity my EDC is normally a striker fired with no safety. Is anyone else finding themselves not carrying the preferred gun as EDC for the same reason?

I prefer DA/SA, but carry a Shield 9mm. Mainly because they don't make DA/SA pistols that small with that capacity. Look at a Shield 9mm vs a Sig 239 9mm. Both have the same exact capacity, yet the 239 is alot larger.

When I go to the range which is not that often anymore I normally bring 4/5 different guns to practice with and every time I fire the sig and then the CZ, I am reaching for the wrong place for the slide release. Safeties up or down depending on the gun, etc.

Has anyone just dropped to just one platform?

HK P2000sk or Beretta PX4 Storm subcompact or CZ Rami are that small in height, though double stack. Some of the older S&W 3rd gen semiautos were single stack 9mms and DA/SA, 908, 3913, 3914, 3913TSW, 3953, 3953TSW and 3954. They're just not in current production.

I alternate now between HKs, SIGs, Walthers, and S&W M&Ps. I never find myself reaching for the wrong controls, partly because I don't use the slide release. I use the slingshot or overhand method to release the slide. The slide is always in the same location. Magazine releases can be an issue, but for some reason my brain just sorts it out. None of my handguns have manual safeties though, partly out of the concern I'd forget to disengage one as it's not a SOP for me (I do have a 1911 for the range on occassion). Decockers I do have however, but I'm not overly worried about being in a race to decock my gun as long as I remember to do it.

Basically, some people can do it others don't. No harm or foul going all the same or using different types as long as you make sure it works in both cases.

My edc is one that I shoot a lot but not the most. However I traded off my one da/sa piece and now have all striker fired guns with no safeties so practice with one is reasonably close to practice with the others. Same controls with slightly different trigger pulls but I know that I can go back and forth pretty well and I have confidence in my proficiency with the edc.

I too carry simple... I only own one polymer striker gun. I dont own it for its looks or status. But it is a battle tested reliable firearm. I do shoot it probably the most as well. At least 50 rounds at every range visit. I do want to stay proficient with it in case I ever need it.

Both. The gun I carry is a .357 magnum revolver. The gun I practice the most is the same .357 magnum revolver. I think revolvers are the simplist handgun.

I alternate EDC between the following three depending on what I am in the mood to carry (and I try to keep them rotated equally):
CZ P-01, Steyr C9-A1, and CZ P-07. Soon a Beretta 8000D will join the rotation as well, and occasionally the other pistols I have work their way in every so often (Walther, Ruger).

My take on effectively carrying different style pistols is to simply train, train, train. And then, train even more! Every visit to the range sees all of them getting shot, but the top three get the most attention.

The guns/models Ive carried, have always been the guns that got shot the most, while they were. Generally, thats once or twice a week.

I still shoot most of the other platforms on a regular basis too, just to stay on top of them. Switching back and forth really isnt an issue, once youre familiar with them.

I always spend time at the range with the gun I am presently carrying. If I change for some reason, I will dry fire and practice drawing from concealed with the new CCW prior to carrying. Once I get to the range, I will practice with the new CCW.

I have 2 main pistols I carry with several other if I feel like it.

I too prefer DA/SA models with decockers for carry. I have carried my striker fired models a few times but, don't plan doing it more than every now and then in the future. I switch back and forth at the range all the time without any issues. So, I shoot them all pretty much equally even though I don't carry them equally.

I'm thinking of getting a smaller framed/single stack for CC to rotate in with my other current carry models depending on the situation. So far the Sig 290 RS which is a DAO model looks like the one that I may go with. If I go that way it would make three different designs that I may carry at one time or another.

Like you said though, those guns are double stack, for me at least width is the most important aspect for me in a carry gun. I have been eying some of the 3rd gen S&W's lately, I see them pop up used in the shop I frequent every now and then.

Yea I can understand.

I think everyone should own at least one at some point. Great pistols, and the single stack ones are excellent for carry.

I don't carry my current favorite (CZ p-09) because it's about 400x bigger than my LCP.

When I don't carry my favorite CC pistol (shield) it's because it's 4x bigger than my LCP.

Controls have zero to do with why I don't carry my favorites...most all my favorites are big honking full sized funsticks. Necessity requires smaller, thinner, lighter for CC.

My EDC philosophy is the KISS method so my Kahr MK9 meets my needs nicely. For me an external safety is not something I train for or wish to train for under the CCW context. I'm a point & click user, nothing (semi auto) feels, easier, faster or more confidence inspiring on my waist.

On the flip side, I'm constantly harping on my dad who one week will carry an M&P Shield then the next week will carry a Para Elite Carry, neither of which are ever chambered.

Agree with you. The 3rd gen S&W are great guns. I have had several but currently only have a CS9 which I may turn into another Glock or CZ.

I have been eying some of the 3rd gen S&W's...

I strongly agree with praise for these. I have a 4506 and a 4046. They're both uber-reliable with very high-quality internals... Excellent values (and they will not decrease in value either).

My EDC is the only one I have left... Sold the rest off cause I never used them. Carry a G-35. It conceals just fine... Especially in the holster I just got... don't know why I didn't go to a pancake holster sooner.
