Is your city like Cincinnati?

A good friend of mine is heading to Cincinnati soon, which means it looks like he'll have to leave his semi-automatic Springfield XD-40 at home. He's pretty new to "the gun thing", so this is his epiphany with regards to the absurdity of gun-control laws.

Anyway, just out of curiosity -- how common is it for cities, towns, muninipalities, etc. to have laws more restrictive than state laws? Do any of you live in, or know of, cities with a similar affliction? Is Ohio's city-preemption law the exception rather than the rule among CCW states? How about for rifles/carbines (since Cincinnati's laws govern those, too)?

EDITED to clarify:

Cincinnati restricts semiautomatics - not just mag capacity, "assault rifles", etc. That's more what I meant to address -- it seems weird to me that the city would restrict a certain type of action (i.e. semi-automatic). I understand that some states allow their cities to be more restrictive about gun laws, but is the "no semiautomatics" kind of thing all that unusual?

New york city is about as bad as the come. Unless you're a celebrity then its no problem to get a carry permit. Whats the saying some pigs are more equal than others.

Some states have nice laws that do not permit cities, towns, counties etc. to make any laws different from the state laws pertaining to firearms.

If he has a carry permit for whatever state he is coming from, and Ohio recognizes that states permit, there should be no problems.

Just make sure to observe all the laws of the states he will be travelling through on his way to Ohio also.....

Philthydelphia keeps trying, but the good legislators in Harrisburg keep shooting them down.

Unlike New York City where any gun is verbotten, unless you want to go through a demeaning intrusive permitting process to own long guns. And have to put on knee pads to get an ultra restrictive pistol permit.

Unless you are a drug using wife beating celebrity with a lot of cash and expensive lawyers that is.
