Am I the only one who is thrilled with the election results? I am a single issue voter (RKBA of course) and I voted for Bush because I thought Gore would be much worse. It seems to me that no gun control law is ever repealed and I saw Bush as slowing down the gradual erosion of our rights, but not as stopping it, let alone reversing the trend. Of course Gore would put the process in high gear if he had his way.
But this election result will probably put a complete halt on new gun control laws for at least two and maybe four years. Both the Senate and House are virtually tied and no matter who gets to be president, he won’t have any sort of mandate to implement any of his pet programs. We start off the new term with a lame duck! I’m still hoping that Bush will win, but I’m no longer worried about what even he would do to us in an attempt to be “reasonable”. Even appointments to the Supreme Court will have to be very close to the middle of the road if they are to have any chance of confirmation.
The only potential down side is that with his hands tied at home, the new president may get us involved in a bunch of military misadventures overseas out of pure frustration at his inability to implement his domestic agenda. (Why else are we in Bosnia, etc?)
What do you all think?
