Is this the best for HD/SD?

It's called the "Masterkey" and was intended for breaching doors in urban combat situations, such as what is going on in Iraq. It seems simply carrying a short-barrelled, pistol-grip only shotgun in addition to a regular M4 was a better solution, however, since the shotgun upfront seriously weighed the M4 down and changed handling characteristics.

i would say no. it is going to be heavy and cumbersome in a hd/sd situation. a good short (18" cylinder bore) shotgun, all by itself (with maybe a handgun for backup) is going to be hard to beat. stick a small light onto it, and you will be good to go!

It's a good basic starter weapon...it'd have to be accessorized a little more. I mean, what good is it without a flame thrower and an RPG mounted?:D

It would certainly at least need a light, a laser, a red dot, a small backup holographics sight, 2 bayonets (one on rifle and one on the shotgun), a sidesaddle on the shotgun, a heat shield on the shotgun, two death-dealing compensators (again, one for the rifle and one for the shotgun) a few spare magazines (at least one on the stock of the ar and two clamped to the magazine in the well), a scope extender, an NVG, and about six vertical foregrips placed in various spots (you may need to rotate the gun at different angles but you'll still need the verticals to look cool). Oh yeah, you'll need some batteries containers attached to some of the rails or all that crap won't work.

I'm sure "Mall Ninja" jokes will ensue, but while comical in appearance, it looks like an exaggerated concept of a "decent idea".

I'm sure several members here have rifle/shotgun combos. From the limited research that I've done, most seem to suffer as much as they benefit, but there are some decent combos that function well and if you could only carry one long weapon some might choose it.

This picture looks weird, in that it looks like something someone put together instead of something professionally designed. It looks overly front heavy and awkward to work the action of the shotgun, but the concept, an attachment capable of firing a shotgun shell from a rifle, is not without reason.

edit: in tune to the OP's question, no, even a good combo gun wouldn't be preferable for home defense unless it was the only gun in the house. I prefer a handgun, no accessories, and despite my sig I actually plan on getting a revolver for home defense down the road for the reliability.

Yep, but before adding all those little necessities it looks like a great little starter kit for the you know who;)

An older, more traditional Masterkey could be seen in the movie Predator.
