This has been going on for a long time. The mini-14/30 are very good carbines. People just don't understand that they are just that carbines. Pinpoint accuracy was not designed or built into them. If you want a good accurate semi-auto .223/6mm/7.62 you get an AR design. It won't cost you any more and generally less.
If I was doing the work myself I might try it just to see how good I could make it shoot. But to buy a ruger and send it to someone else, pay to have it done. Like paying someone to try and turn a VEGA( dating myself) into a Corvet.
This is what makes the free enterprise system work.
