Is This Necessary, If So, WHY??

Not firearms related, but perhaps interesting never-the-less.

Ealier this evening, saw a television commercial aimed at getting people to return their CENSUS FORMS.

This particular commercial, one assumes paid for by THE GOVERNMENT, stressed the importance of returning census forms because of the alleged relationship between this action, and the allocation of funding for day care facilities, which according to the thread of the commercial, were badly needed.

Assuming this to be true, perhaps it is, one still wonders as to why the need for the commercials. The census happens once every ten years, and the people are really not that lacking in understanding and or grasp of things that they need all this expensive "encouragement".

The "need for such encouragement" seems to indicate a problem of sorts, which to the writer revolves around the fact that the government has lost the faith and trust of a whole lot of the citizenry. The really interesting, not to mention troubling question remaining is WHY this has happened.

Not paid for by the government - paid for by you, and me, and all of us.

If they know if your lying or not on the Census - WHY do we NEED the Census?
Not only that - Why cant they just filter Form 1042 information?

Its a waste of Money.

Let me get this straight. I give the government a part of my paycheck every month, and they use it for $600 toilet seats and census TV ads. If I want some of *my* money to go back into *my* community, I have to fill out a form to enable the government to do its job right?

Ya. Right.

The census ads are misleading gummit BS (isn't that redundant?) They sure know where to find their folks when it comes to collecting taxes and clamping down on poor bastards who grow the botanical equivalent of a bottle of vodka in their back yard. How come they need assistance in giving the money back?

It cracks me up when people froth at the mouth whenever the school prayer issue comes up. You want the *government* to be responsible for that as well? The same government that put a trillion unneeded and populistic soccer-mom-appeasing gun laws on the books? The government that routinely overtaxes everybody by default, and then massively misspends a large portion of that money? The same government that allows Barry McCaffrey to be a "honorary" federal LEO so he can carry in the "gun free" liberal paradise D.C.?

This is still a great country, probably the most free nation on earth, but it is that way because of *individuals*, not governments. Only individuals have rights, governments have duties. The census is there to determine the number of people in a state to set that state's rep allocation in Congress. That is all. Anything else is information they shouldn't even be asking for, and to pretend that it is *our* fault if day care is underfunded because we didn't return those silly little forms is an insult.

I dont hink I am qualified for honorary fed LEO. I am unwilling to get on my knees and s**k.

FUD:

Re your question concerning "the annointing" of Barry McCaffrey, a lot of us likely are "better qualified" than he. Qualifications however, are beside the point. Political connections, which he has, aren't.

Relatively independent taxpayers have no real interest in the accuracy of census stats other than those required by the constitution - i.e. how many and how old for representation purposes.

The government is much more interested in those who do not pay taxes and need the assistance of a collective power to "improve" their human condition. That is why 1040 info is irrevelant to the true cause. Government needs problems to solve and skewering of stats provide the groundwork for the next social crisis to be addressed.

Yet government is no more of a solution to real or imagined social or economic problems than the liquid gasoline is an extinguisher of fire. New fuel and oxygen must constantly be sought out by this political engine.

These paternal and insulting ads have one single purpose: Preserve the growth and control government has over your life.

G-Freeman pretty much has it. The census has one reason only, to calculate numbers of reps per state and how the districts should be apportioned. Age, sex, and so on are completely superfluous, all they need to know, constitutionally, is the number of voters in a particular area.

Regarding Barry McCaffrey: When it was mentioned that he's a honorary federal LEO, I had this wild vision of everyone in the country holding up their right hand and being sworn in as a deputy marshal so we can all pack heat.

Damn! It's a good thing I don't use drugs otherwise I would think up some REALLY crazy stuff! ;) :D :p

I sent this to my Senators and Representative:

"I have been reading about elected officials and government employees being appointed as honorary or special deputy US Marshals in order to be permitted to carry firearms. Please let me know how this is done so that I can get you to do it for me.
Sincerely, "

Better days to be,

We have a Democratic administration and the Democrats are obsessed with the idea that inner city areas are undercounted to the Democratic party's disadvantage in apportioning congressional districts. They want to get as many people counted in these areas only by any means to make districting more favorable to them. That is why you see all the adds obviously directed to the lower strata of the population and all the foriegn languages. It might help them a little, but I doubt that it will do much.
What they really want ot do is drop the traditional census all together and go to some "scientific" method of counting people more to their percieved advantage.
The Republicans, of course, will not go for this at all.
