Is this guy carrying what I think he's carrying?

Yep, that was the first centerfire rifle I ever bought for myself. The Mohawk 600 in .308. Of course the one pictured is the earlier model with vent rib. The bolt handle is the dead giveaway.

The news article I read said he's been stealing weapons (may be where he got the 600), food, and lots of other items from the cabins he's been breaking into.

He's also shot up and otherwise damaged a number of cabins, and has apparently started leaving threatening notes.

My guess is that he stole the snow shoes.

Once captured id should be easy. thats a good picture of a suspect.

The NBC suit bag sticks out to me before even the snowshoes.

TX Hunter, the original Model 600 '64-'68 had the vent rib barrel. The Mohawk is the one I owned and was built from '71-'80 and didn't have the vent rib.

I just read about him this morning, and he's had an interesting run. What I find really interesting is that they've run his fingerprints that he left laying around the cabins he burgled, and it's coming back clean. Evidently he doesn't have a record of any kind. I bet that will change when they finally put the habeas snatchus on him.

Where is he getting ammo?

He's been out for five years. Always one step ahead (apparently more than one) Where is he getting ammo? I don't think he wants to hurt anyone. He want's out.

One has to ask are all the break-ins down to this man or are others now band wagoning. When they catch the one that is leaving threats, I doubt it will be the same guy.

Given how good the fish cops are at watching for poaching why can't they find this guy?

But I digress...

Yeah they caught old Rudolph in my hometown. He had lived with an old man for the first couple of years and then the guy died, so Rudolph setup camp out in the woods. He got caught dumpster diving in town behind a store and that's where the cop picked him up (he didn't have a clue it was Rudolph). Sooner or later this guy will make a mistake and they'll get him too.

Calling him "Mountain Man" is a rude insult to "Mountain Men"

He is a scumbag thief.I hope he gets caught before he hurts someone and I hope the prosecuter charges each stolen gun as a felony.

Something tells me you wouldn't want to run into this guy in the woods. His face has that "I could care less about what I do" look. As for catching him that may be easier said than done. He's off the radar right now. No known record as far as the cops can figure out. No prints no priors? He could be one scary sociopath. Any guy that doesn't mind wearing purple snow shoes can't be wrapped real tight. And whoever said it I think is right. He isn't the one breaking into all the cabins. He may be making himself at home, but I somehow don't see him trashing them.
