Found this for sale and am considering it, but I don't know about the price. The dealer says it's NIB.

Let me know what you guys think...

He's asking $1100 for the gun and $300 for the grips... I guess they're real ivory...

Does anyone know what kind of bushing system these things have???

No

You can get a top quality stainless Springfield or Kimber for that kind of money. If you're a collector the Colt brand might make it worthwhile, but if you plan to use it spend your money on something else.

It might be worth close to that as a colector's item... more obsure Colts can command pretty high prices. But that sounds pretty high.

While it's nice to look at, I wouldn't buy it. Maybe if it was a Series 70, I might go 1200.00 for it. You could buy a stainless Kimber or Springfield for 4 to 6 hundred less.:)

Seppeku, ..... I would say it depends. I really love Colts too. Colts are always high in price. It's subjective whether or not they are worth it. The question is, is it worth the price to you? Have you been wanting one for a long time, and this is the first one you've seen? Or is it a spur of the moment thing? Or are you like many of us..."Man, I should of gotten that gun when I saw it."
Good luck on what you decide.:)

I wouldn't pay $1400 for it . . .

For about $1400, you can buy a mid-to-low end Wilson or Baer or a top-end Kimber or Springfield -- with several hundred bucks let for holsters, ammunition, and so forth. On a strict monetary basis, there is no way (IMHO) this Colt can compare with other 1911A1 options. Further, the ivory grip may be cosmetically nice, but how effective would they been with mud, sweat, blood, etc. on them?

I'd give the guy an offer of $$1100.00 tops if he wont go for it he's trying to sell you the sentimental value and that can't be sold.

Pretty gun.

I don't see the Tactical Officers model listed in the blue book at all.

Book value on an Officer's Lightweight NIB that was manufactured between 86 and 97 is $575.00.

I assume this was a custom shop gun and honestly I haven't gotten a catalog from Colt in many years to peruse their custom shop offerings(shame on me). Others who have seen this offered in the catalogs PLEASE LET US KNOW! If that is the case and you really want to get it have the owner produce a letter from Colt as to its heritage - especially when it comes to what was done to it. If the grips are from the custom shop(they would have outsourced them more than likely), the letter will show that. If they are aftermarket grips with the medallion it adds no value because Ajax Custom Grips does that all the time.

Still, the alloy framed Colt models have substantially less value than their steel framed brethren.

If the owner can come through with an official letter from Colt and you want this as a curiosity piece, by all means get it. If you are looking for an Officers version to be a shooter, get something else.

Personally, I love Colts and my family has too, for many, many years. One thing we don't like and would never own is one of their "Lightweights", because they are a bit lacking in the longevity department.

Let us know further of your endeavors. If the seller balks on answering the questions above about grips and the letter - walk away. There are too many good Colts out there to allow yourself to be taken by a sheister from a few thousand miles away.

It's a pretty pistol for that price whats the purpouse behind it?Shooters piece or conversation piece? If you regularly shoot it ,it declines in value, and for that price I'm sure theres alot better pistols out there. So you either buy it to never shoot and hold the value, or shoot it and think of that investment out the tube!SAFE-SHOOTING!

Back in June I came across an ultimate officers ACP, which is all stainless steel I paid $625 for it. 1400 seems very high to me.
However the other compacts springfield and kimber sell for around 750-1200 depending on the model and the options, so to get a colt it might be worth 1000 with the ivory grips.

On the other hand you might never see one of these for sale again, I know that over the last 4 years I have never seen an ultimate officers ACP for sale in any of the local gunshops or shows. People who buy them seem to hold on to them for some reason.

I was told the one I bought was a salesmans sample that was in the COLT safe unfired and sold to a distributor at an auction held by COLT over a year ago.

On the other hand you can get a new Defender for $700, which is an improved lightweight officers so as a shooter you might be better off with one of those.

Have a headache yet?

Well it is a pretty nice Colt. If someone had the spare cash around, it may be worth it.

If you pay that you may live up to your name. Noway agood value for ashooter. If you are realy young, it may be worth it for acollector in 50 years given inflation, Colt may go out of business in that time, etc. IMHO.

I paid $1k for an ivory stocked 1911 customized by SF Gunsmith Bob Chow. But being that this is not a gun which has been graced by renown hands, I doubt if it's worth it. Better to have somebody make ivory grips for you if that's the attraction. You can get it scrimshawed with your name or what not.
