I am deeply considering trading my SW s/s third generation model 5943 DAO 9mm with 3 16 round mags, nights sites, Hogue combat grips for a Taurus 100 40 sw. In your opinion would this be a good trade. Please help I value your opinion. What u know about Taurus PT-100's.

Sounds extremely unwise to me. S&Ws are far better guns than Tauruses (Tauri?), and have much better resale value. It would not be a square trade, he would have to add cash to the deal and even then you would still be trading a S&W for a Taurus.

It's a good trade for the other guy, not for you. The S&W you've got has the additional mags, Houge grips, etc. that make it worth more than the Taurus not to mention that S&W is a much higher quality gun than the Taurus.

I really don't think I would ever trade a S&W for a Taurus. It's a trade-down no matter which way you look at it. JMHO

while the beretta clones seam to be the only gun taurus doesn't have constant complaints on and the only one I would recommend in good faith, do not go through with this deal.

I'm sorry, why do you think this would be a great trade?

Is the S&W non-functioning or otherwise broke? Other than that, I wouldn't even consider the trade.

For all the obvious reasons (re: S&W vs Taurus in reputation, build quality, service, durability, etc), here's another one that might not be as obvious. The 3rd Gen S&W pistols are no longer made, so finding one of those to replace one you traded away will prove much more difficult than walking down to Guns 'R Us and buying a replacement Taurus.

I would love to be the other guy making this trade, but you really should not make yourself a victim here.

Without specifically Taurus bashing (I have two myself!) your S&W is a much better handgun.

uhhhhhh....... screw that. no.

im not trying to say anything bad about taurus, but your gun sounds like a keeper. unless of course, you are simply looking to switch things up a bit.

Value is in the eye of the beholder.

If you really want a .40, then it might be a value to you to make the trade. It might also be prudent to check what you could get selling your S&W, asy at a local dealer, on an auction board, or at the local gun club. Then see what a used .40 at same locations would cost you.

While I would never trade a S&W for a Taurus I see on gunbroker that they are pretty close to the same price ... close enough (both about $475) I'd not squabble much .

NO - save your money. Get a sign and stand on the street corner:

Will Work for Taurus - God Bless

Seriously, the SW is a better gun. You don't gain much from a 40 SW despite what folks say.
