Is this a Rabble Rouser?

lol this reminds me of the compromise thread

If this guy is "legally" blind and simply sees blurry outlines of things, retaining depth and color perception then I can see how he'd want to carry. However if he's 100% without any vision whatsoever then hell no he shouldn't have a gun. The risk is far too great that he'll shoot someone he shouldn't.

Well There are blind hunter organizations and a blind man was given a permit in Colorado some years back

There was also an article in a recent NRA magazine about a blind deer hunter in Michigan. He used a Blackhawk .41 magnum with CT laser grips and a friend helped him.

This guy's funny...

Know what? I'm not allowed to go into the Women's restroom. I was just born that way, missing the requisite body parts for womanhood! Is that unfair? Is that "discrimination"? Are my "Kawns-a-toosh'nil Rahatz" being violated? Sex discrimination, right???

Fact is, this poor dude cannot see. And therefore, it a factual statement that he cannot shoot a gun safely. At best, he can only depend on the word-of-mouth assurances of those around him that his target and his backstop are clear. He cannot confirm this for himself, and therefore, he cannot exercise due care in discharging his weapon. He shouldn't have a permit. Sorry, life's tough, I know, but he shouldn't have one.

Problem is, this guy raising a ruckus over his permit denial makes the rest of us look bad. It makes the gun-control lobby say, "Well, can ANYONE TRULY handle a gun safely???" This guy's got a Utah permit. He needs to leave well-enough alone, and quit giving fuel to the fire for the other side.

There's a guy in Knoxville who had a carry permit and was completely blind. Ironically, it was a firearms accident that resulted in the optics nerves being severed.

When taking the shooting qual, he positioned himself exactly in the middle of the lane so as to hit the target and passed.

Any use he would make of his gun, he said, would be a response to an assault and wouldn't put anyone other than his attacker in jeopardy. "It would be self-defense, at point-blank range, with ammo that doesn't go any further than the assailant," McWilliams said Tuesday.

How does that work, exactly? Is a blind man trying to guarantee us that he won't miss? I'm not willing to guarantee that, even at point blank range...and I can see!

The only part of this article I found troubling is that he already has permits in two other states.

Extremely tangential, but I was reading some arguments lately that designated women's/men's rooms that are single occupancy (one toilet, locking door) are discriminatory. That once immediate privacy is not an issue, there's no reason men should be forced to use the same toilet as men and women use the same as women...and that if either bathroom is maintained to a higher standard, it's actually a "civil rights" issue.

I mean, I agreed but still...don't we have bigger issues to worry about?[/tangent]

The flip side to this is, guns are so safe even a blind guy can use one. :D :p

ADA lawsuit

You have to remember guys, this may open the door to an ADA lawsuit that may work out to our benefit, especially here in the PRK. Just a thought:cool:

Have a great Kenpo day

Clyde

I had a blind law professor once. Constitutional law. When we got to the obscenity cases, he made a joke about going to a strip club and asking for a braile version! (You know, ADA requires that businesses make "special provisions" for the handicapped...) The whole room almost DIED laughing!!!

Yes, quite right: [/tangent]!

I can sure see the sheriff's point. However, how many gun owner out there are legally, or just factually blind without their glasses? A carry permit isn't requiring corrective lenses to use(fortunately).
I think he is just making issues as he isn't even a MN resident.
He may even jeopardize the reciprocity in MN for others.
