Is this a problem with my new G17?

I bought a new G17 on Friday and took it to my local indoor range on Saturday.
I put 75 rounds of Winchester 115gr and 50 rounds of UMC 115gr. thru the gun.
Now halfway thru the shooting something hit me in the stomache. I looked down and saw a peice of jacketing laying on the booth table. It came from the UMC ammo.
I asked the range owner and he said it probably bounced off the backstop and hit me. Now the range has a slanted concrete backstop with a water trap underneath , and there is only paper targets allowed there.
Well I went again today and used some more of the ammo {bought at WAL-MART}, and sure enough there was about five peices of jacketing on the table again {didn't hit me this time}, that wasn't there before. I'm alittle concerned about this, what is causing this and what are the odds of it happening 2 days in a row & landing on me or the table? Is it the Gun, ammo or is it really ricocheting of the back stop.
Thanks.

I really don't think that it is your gun. You really can get backsplash. What's worse, you can get other people's backspash.

I've gone dozens of times without noticing any backsplash. Then its Dodge City. One time, I get hit by my buddies backsplash. He was in the next lane. My next shot, he gets hit by mine. One of those bizarre coincidences. And this was in an indoor range with a slanted back-stop.

Fifth time's the charm???

No, this is not a problem with your gun or your ammo. It is a problem with the backstop.

Like they told you on Assault Web.

Just for good measure...

dtslay,

I think there may be something wrong with your gun! You should send it to me ASAP for the safety of those around you! I will shoot...er...TEST!, yeah, that's what I'll do, I'll test the gun for you to see if I can find out what's causing the jacket material to separate. (Maybe that indoor range is just a little warm and the bullets were taking their jackets off to remain comfortable!;))

Blades67,
You really crack me up. My G17 should be there in a day or two so you can TEST it out for me, I even threw in a couple hundred rounds for you to use.;) So have a blast testing.
