well my 1960 something 17-2 seems to have good lockup and timing to me-- but the ratchet star ( i think it is called ) is pretty chewed up and was just wondering if this is a serious problem?
i shot about 200 downrange and she seemed to shoot accurate, i didnt notice anything out of the ordinary... excep sometimes it was difficult to open the cylinder after closing it with 6 rounds loaded... it always seemed to be easy to open after shooting the rounds.

appreciate all the insight.

Doesn't look good.
Problem is, you can't just pick up another ejector, since the ejector is a factory fitted part that requires skilled work to install and fit properly.

Personally, I'd send it in to S&W for a new ejector and a check-up as to WHY it's chewing up the ratchet.

smith says to fix ratchet and hand 70-80 bucks and my dinged front sight for 30. 100-110 + shipping. Right now it works so I should just shoot till I start spittin lead or having other problems? thanks for the help.
