Yesterday at a local shop,I saw a very nice 7.5" barrel Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44mag for $259.00.I'd say that its about 95% of new and the only noticeable wear is a light drag line around the cylinder.It has an adjustable rear sight and I think it has Pachmyer grips on it.The serial number was a 83-??????.Does this mean it was made in 1983 and could therefore be on the verge of falling apart do to age? While were at it,what is the difference between a Blackhawk and Super Blackhawk?

I can't answer all your questions, but here's a start.

The 83- serial number indicates it has the updated for safety action. I think that came out in late 1980 but I may be wrong.
As to falling apart, unless someone has gotten in there and screwed with the mechanism it should be just fine. Most .44 mags really don't see a lot of rounds in their lifetime, therefore I wouldn't be to concerned as to its reliability.
In terms of price, that's tough. Prices really fluctuate by market. Assuming it's blued, I think $259 isn't bad, especially if they'll throw in some ammo or a holster. If not $239 is probably more in line, at least around here.
If you want a 44 Mag it's a solid gun.
Hope this helped.

The 83- prefix was used from '78 to '81.Thats not a bad price for the gun.I paid 375. for mine but it was stainless.Ruger made the blackhawk .44 's from '56 to '62.Then Ruger decided that the .44 needed a larger frame and developed the Super Blackhawk.The blackhawk is only made in .30 up to the .45 with a few special models.The super Blackhawk is only chambered in .44.The Super blackhawk Hunter is avalible in .41, .44, and .45lc

Cool-Thanks.It is a blued model and the people ive talked to locally all pretty much say that the Super Blackhawk in .44mag should outlast me and is quite the tough revolver.

the super blackhawk will outlast a lot of people. if I was going to get another 44 mag it would be the super blackhawk

Last week I picked up a like new Bisley for $325. sat I picked a Super blackhawk in 44 mag for $250. It is the prewarning gun. I wish it was a flattop :p . the ser# starts with an 81-. I always like the looks of the prewarning guns.

I think you did ok. Like some other people said it depends where you live on what the prices are for used guns. Before all the SASS stuff you could pick up a Ruger Blackhawk real cheap. One of my favorite Rugers is a Blackhawk convertible in 45 Colt and 45 ACP that I picked up before SASS days for $145

Sounds decent to me. Just a bit below average.

They are VERY strong guns, and will survive a lifetime of full power magnums without flinching.

//EDIT

I paid $400 for mine, shot 6 times. Came with a nice George Lawrence gun belt, which was worth last I checked close to $300. I'm happy with it.
