Is This A Good Deal?

Came across a gently used Glock 21 Gen 4 with Wolf Competition Springs and Ghost 3.5 Connector for $475.

I'm thinking it's good because around here there's a police trade in without the upgrades for $590...

Not sure what state you live in (as pre-ban pistols in certain states fetch a premium) but those are pretty steep prices.

Tunnelrat. What hand gun is on a "pre-ban" list? What makes them any different that what is currently being made? Just trying to expand my knowledge.

You won't run into the issue since you're in TN. That said, states like MA (I'll only speak to that state since I have some experience there) are basically still under the Assault Weapons Ban that expired federally in 2004. They keep it going at the state level. That means no magazines greater than 10 rds, etc (you can look up the details for yourself on Wikipedia). Because of that in MA pre-1994 pistols often sell at a premium as the normal capacity magazines they come with are grandfathered in. This means Glocks with magazines greater than 10 rds. Now I suppose technically you could buy those magazines separately, but magazines don't have serial numbers and most don't have any kind of date coding. You can use manufacturer changes over time to get a rough estimate, but it gets a little shady. If you buy the pre-ban pistol and the magazines come with it it's a bit easier to make your case. Now honestly I have never heard of someone being punished for it, but most people that own firearms want to obey the law.

Like TunnelRat said, it does depend on where you live.

Sounds high to me.

P.S.

After further review on Armslist - looks about right. Can' get over the price these things are getting!

It's not an amazing deal, not a bad deal, it's a good deal if you feel it's a good deal or if you really like the gun.

In my humblest of opinions, a significant factor should be IF *YOU* like the upgrades... for me, I am as big an upgrader, enhancer, tinkerer and messer-arounder with my guns as anyone is -if not more. I am ALWAYS trying to upgrade and enhance and add something to make it better, cooler, better looking, better performing, better feeling, better in my mind etc.

Having said that, I am not a competition shooter nor do I favor anything like that, and the particular upgrades on that Glock don't do it for me. At all. So to me, I wouldn't spend anything extra to acquire a gun that has those upgrades because they're not my cup of tea. But if you do favor them or are into competition or target shooting (serious or more serious than a 'normal' shooter) it might be a great deal to you. Similarly if you feel the gun is great, just looks great and feels great or looks like it's barely ever been used, then jump on it.

A lot and I mean a LOT of used gun buying, pre-owned guns and trades and police-trade-ins and all that stuff, it's not so much if everyone else thinks it's a good deal or if the internet posters all like it, it's if YOU like it, and YOU'RE feeling it or feel it's a good deal. Short of an obviously biased or one-sided trade or downright bamboozle of a price for a used gun, other people aren't really the people who can make the call for you, gotta follow your inside , know what I mean?

Prices on Armlist can be high. Plus, you can ask for a price but that doesn't mean you'll get it. I'd probably do $425 for that so I suppose it's not too high.

Bingo. If those are upgrades you yourself would do it might be worth it. Part of what's built into that price is the value on those aftermarket options.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't know why but it appears Glocks sell high.

I really like Glocks, but I sold mine in favor of an M&P and I ended keeping quite a bit of cash. I may just hold off and save up to get the TRP anyway.

That's less than what my Gen4 G-21 cost me new but it's a great gun and I think its worth every penny of what a good one goes for.

I got a gen 3 glock 21 with night sights and two hi-cap mags that were police trade in's with little use or wear for $369+tax late last year. Sounds high to me.

Glocks are the Toyotas and Hondas of the gun world. They all have a high resale because they are known to be consistent, reliable and last a long time.

My LGS blows through alot of Glocks each week. In our shop expect to pay $425-$450.00 for that gun with mods. Just about every other Glock that gets traded in is modded so the mods are lucky to bring 10 cents on the dollar trade in. Night Sights are one of the only upgrades that most everybody wants so they become a bit more desirable. The LE trade-in Glocks are sooo cheap that I buy a few just to ride in my ATV and boat. Its practically a disposable handgun at that point.

Glocks should be $300-$450 used depending on the condition and the configuration. $400 is the sweet spot IMHO for LNIB guns. I personally prefer Glocks which have not been modified. I prefer to do the modifications myself. Glocks have become the 1911s of the polymer world in that everyone messes with them to "improve" them and they don't always do it right.

For whatever it's worth, I saw two Gen 3 G21s, with 3 mags each, night sights, and (supposedly) in good condition on Arkansas Gun Trader last week. Both were unmodified and priced at $450 each.
