Is there anything wrong with the .41 AE?

I've heard all this talk about the .41 Special, and while it'd be great if it'd be legitimized, what would it do that the .41AE couldn't? From what I can tell, the ballistics are almost identical, but the pressures aren't. Would that be the problem? I'd REALLY like to see a revolver chambered for this :)

The problem with the 41AE is that guns and ammunition are not available.

41AE vs 41Special: .41 special would work in revolvers without moon clips. ;)

41Defender, the only thing I see wrong with the .41 Action Express cartridge is that it is OBSOLETE, DEAD, GONE, NO LONGER WITH US!

There's a lot wrong with the .41 Action Express.

It had horrible timing, coming out just as the .40 S&W tidal wave was hitting.

It has a rebated rim, making it tough to use in revolver.

Bullets and cases were never easily available.

It's dead.

.41ae

Not necessarily dead, yet. I shoot a Ruger Blackhawk conversion in .41AE, a Browning Hi-power conversion, and a Colt 9mm conversion. I've got a dwindling supply of brass I got from Wideners years ago. For loads, I start with the starting loads for the .40S&W. Extraction can be the biggest problem with semi-autos due to the rebated rim. The cartridge has a pretty good following in Europe still. For a .41 caliber semi-auto though, I favor the .41Avenger. This is a trimmed .45Winchester Magnum necked to .41 to get a good neck or the .45ACP which results in a little shorter neck. :D

First of all, Thanx to everyone. .41 Man, it's nice to see another .41 fan on the board.
The Blackhawk you descibe is EXACTLY what I'm looking for :)
As far as the other arguments go, there may be some validity to that, but look at how many "dead" rounds have gotten a second chance.
Frankly, and this may offend some, but .45s bore me. Everyone wants one, I'd like to see what else is there.

My favorite cartridge, the 41 Action Express

Only dead now because we haven't YET gotten Starline to make us cases (e-nag them please please please).

Only difficult to extract in certain (crappy) guns; UZI conversions gobble 'em up, Witnesses (Tanfoglios) gobble 'em up, Browning conversions seem to gobble 'em up, NO experience with converted 1911 platform.

In every example I've experienced accuracy is above par.
Pressure in that beautiful case is low.
41 bullets (.410") are common; 41 Magnum, ay?
Low-weight powder charges keep it economical.
Unable to 'wear out' my IMI cases.
I still have a personal stash of the discontinued Speer 180g Gold Dot bullet; perfection for making a 'social' load.

Truly a perfect cartridge for 9mm platforms, WITHOUT the recoil feel of the 40 S&W.

Starline? Please?
