Is there any end in sight?

Id say they will come down after we elect a new administration... Until then I see no return of ammo prices nor availability.

I actually found some primers and some powder I have been looking for today. Gives me a little hope.
 
My local Scheels had a large supply of AR-15 magazines in, at a modest price of $30 :eek:
No 5.56mm/.223 ammo, but there is still a huge supply of 7.62x39 ammo at all of the gun stores.
Really wished I had a Ruger Mini-30 :(
 
Ya I am seeing the same at my Scheels, just stopped in the local gun store and saw 2 ar's on the rack! I'm not going to mention the price but hey they are there!
 
Went to a gun show today....huge crowds, several dealers with tables loaded full of AR's. Nobody was buying, dealers aren't moving them at inflated prices. News about AWB not getting through Congress has cooled the panic. Ammo is another issue.....hard to find common calibers and reloading components.
 
Perhaps I'm an optimist at heart, but I think the panic is cooling down. As folks: (a) realize that an AWB is unlikely to pass Congress, and (b) run out of money from all of their panic buying, demand will slow down. I'm not sure we'll ever see prices like they were a year ago, but things will get better, I think.
 
I was at my local range/gunshop today. I picked up 4 boxes of .223 Hornady Tactical Application Police ammunition 20 cartridges for $26.99 a box. I also picked up 100 rounds of .38 special for $36.00. I was talking with the owner and he told me that they have been notified that starting April 1st his cost to purchase ammo from his suppliers will be going up. He said that his cost for ammo will be going up as follows.

  • center fire rifle ammo will be going up by 15%
  • Rim fire ammo will be going up by 10%
  • Pistol ammo will be going up by 5%

I also stopped by Walmart and the case where they had there ammunition now contains car radios and speakers. May be this is a sign that they are not going to carry ammo any longer.

I have had no issues in getting any reloading supplies. There seems to be plenty of primers and powder available here locally.

I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens.
 
The problem is our political leaders are inflaming or allowing chaos to reign. There is no unequivocal stance to vote down any and all new gun laws. We have some activists yammering for more and more laws and at the state levels many are being introduced and some are passing into law. At best we have a few politicians saying their are pro-2A but will consider reasonable gun laws. Not reassuring at all to the gun owner.

As long as our politicians want to stir the pot gun owners will keep stockpiling, in fact the longer it goes unresolved the more reason to suspect something bad is in the works. Another shooting or assassination comes along and things could tilt dramatically the wrong way quickly. Meanwhile many are taking note of the supposedly A+ pro-gun legislators who are singing the cricket song while we twist in the wind. I predict an election blood bath for all the unprincipled, silent, fence sitters. They may think themselves canny to stay out of the fight. But after the legal fights we will know who had our back and who ate popcorn in the stands. So far there is probably less than 10 congressmen that can claim active defense of the 2A in the court of public opinion where we are fighting alone against the mainstream media, activist congressmen and the entire WH administration.
 
Things appear to be cooling down here. I went to Cabelas today and there was no wait at the gun counter. The salesman said fewer people are coming in. The stock has not yet caught up though, especially in the magazine and ammo departments. The gun selection is increasing, though I didn't see any EBRs.
 
It's been two months. Last time it took six or so for things to calm down and begin to return to anything approaching normalcy.

So while it appears the bubble is indeed bursting, I think we're still a ways away from full availability of the magazines and ammo at prices anywhere close to pre-panic levels.
 
Stopped by a local store to pick up another two boxes of 5.56 (limit per day) and was told they had people standing at the door waiting to get in before the store opened because they received 100 375 round boxes of CCI Mini-Mags. Obviously they didn't last long.

At another shop that I stop in at I was told that they had up to 80 people at a time in the place during the day. It's not a big place and 80 people is more than I have ever seen in there by a long shot. Seems like the panic is gaining steam here again.
 
The same thing happened in 2009. I remember not being able to find any 38spl and 9mm. There was a short supply of 22lr but not like this year. If I recall, this lasted through most of 2009 until everyone realized nothing was really happening. The people that went out and overspent and hoarded accomplished nothing except overspending.
 
Things are slowing a bit, and manufacturers are starting to catch up on backlogs. We've still got a long way to go. If nothing horrible happens, it'll still be summer before the rolling shortages stop.

That said, we had AR-15's on the shelf that actually stayed there most of the day today. That's a landmark.
 
heard some of the ammo manufacturers got together and were discussing things...heard the consensus is 9 months till it gets back to normal.
 
The other day I stuck my head inside the local gunshop.

There were half a dozen AR15's on the wall.

They were right next to the $1500 Mini-14, so I didn't even bother to ask about price, but that's a step up from being sold out for weeks.
 
The ammo and AR15 bubble may be ending, but there is no end in sight for those who keep the 2nd Amendment. Stay active, write your representatives, state and federal, all of them, once each week for the remainder of the year. Vote the anti's out of office, and keep them out, out of the school boards, local mayors, county, parish, state, all offices they hold. Give them no political power. They need to be on their soapbox down at the street corner instead of congress.
 
Sign of the times(sigh...)....

I've lived in my metro area for approx 12.5 years and never saw the local big fairgrounds gun show(that runs about 6/year) be SOLD OUT! :eek:
By sold out I mean huge crowds & SRO(standing room only).
New gun buyers & 2A supporters are rushing to gun shops & FFL holders now.

It's like the old Yogi Berra saying; "No one goes there anymore, it's too crowded!" :D

The crowds may slowly go down but & read carefully, the prices will stay high. :(
