Is There A Secret Code?

Well, a couple of days agao, I was in a car that we were trying to sell and the test driver was a guy that i swore was a hunter shooter/ yet I was unsure and didnt want to make a fool of myself or be rude and blatantly ask him.... So I just shut up about it. I ask you seasoned professionals whethere there is any way to tell or to ask discretely, a secrete firearms "code" if you will. I asked him about his political standpoint, very opacue (sp) He didnt like kerry, but wanted to perserve as much of the environment as possible ( so do i but thats a different story) he also wants to get off oil-so do i, he didnt really like bush, so do I
as I said not really clear
Any pointers?

Sure, pull a piece of 50 caliber brass out of your pocket and drop it, while saying something like "Darn, that must be left over from the range the other day."

I've also found that when the subject comes up of "What do you do?" - as it seems to do whenever two or more Americans meet and talk - and I reply with I do volunteer work as a rangemaster at a local shooting range, the gun subject has been clearly breached.

We should have a set code and try to spread it through out the shooting world...Just to avoid unnecessacary hassle when we don't need it. I'm always up for a good gun control debate, but some times there just isn't time for it.

I usually tell who other shooters are by giving them long lingering knowing looks in public places, perhaps a toss of the head, a subtle wink....generally it will be reciprocated with that subtle body language we know so well

All of us just know who else is...

I look for loose ammunition on them or in their vicinity. Anyone who glances at my backpack will see I'm into hunting (it's camo), and if you look close you might see a few 12 ga shells in the see-through rear pocket.

Failing external cues, just ask them what their hobbies are. Secret code = english. Or whatever your primary shared language is.

Or just "010011110111011101101110001000000110000101101110

We need a secret handshake or something:D :D :D :D

You wanted to know if he's a hunter, so you asked about his political views and the environment? One has nothing to do with the other...

Is there a reason you think a "secret code" would be better than simply asking someone, "Are you a hunter?"

Seems almost like you think something is bad about hunting and shooting that you have to keep it a secret.

Okay, if you hear me casually work the phrase "The zombies have wings in Cairo" into the conversation, rest assured that it's really me. You need to respond with "The x-ring marks the spot" so I'll know it's you.

Own any guns?

not sure that would work because there are ten types of people in the world, those than understand binary and those that don't

"I usually tell who other shooters are by giving them long lingering knowing looks in public places, perhaps a toss of the head, a subtle wink....generally it will be reciprocated with that subtle body language we know so well"

And all along I thought the key was the matching camo manbags.

Just to check...

I gave a man a knowing wink once. Turns out I was right. Now I've got a 9mm scar right below where my ribs meet.

political and environmental view points are excedingly relevant as, one can directly correlate to the other IE "I think bush is doing a poor job, he is behind the oil business and therefore wants to sell that "beautifull" land and he has the support of all the redneck hunters too" was a reply I got from my mothers friend- this clearly shows biased towards certain ideals-giving me a glimpse of who they are

 Could you tell us that story in some more detail? There has to be more to it than that. I'm sure someone wouldn't just shoot you because you knew they had a gun!
