Is there a difference between boxed and clamshelled scopes of the same brand?

I was at Dick's Sporting Goods looking at scopes. I was considering a BSA Sweet 22 3-9AO which are on closeout for my Marlin 60. I was shown a NIB scope, but the guy said they only had it in silver and I want black. Then he said he had one black one left, but it was in a clamshell pack.

Aside from the difficulty of getting into the clamshell, which is a PITA, is there any difference between the two scopes? I decided to pass on the clamshell for the time being, but I might go back.

Actually except for packaging they should be exactly the same. Check for Mfg product number they should be the same also. I hate blister packs also.

one of the best ways to completely check is the UPC , sounds silly but its super easy .

if they're different packaging and perhaps even a slightly different name (Iast week i noticed two different hungry man meals, like Bourboun Steak Strips and Sliced BBQ Bourbon Strips) but same UPC = Same product.

I put one of the Dick's blister pack Sweet 22's on my Marlin 60 and I'm quite pleased with it. The optics are surprisingly clear, and once zeroed at 50 yards the range turret was on at 75 and 100. I was using CCI SV and Fed AutoMatch.
Be aware these are the older model with the AO on the objective, the new ones are side focus and more $. I bought it on a whim, when shopping for some other stuff. If it ever breaks, BSA will replace or repair-lifetime warranty!
