Is the Sig 970 in 30-06 any good?

o.k. amogo's, I have a buddy who really wants to get a Sig 970 rifle in 30-06, with the ability to change caliberes- by switching barrles.

My concern was that it may suffer in the accuracy department, due to lock up tolerances. Does any one have on opinion on this particular rifle? Also note that he would be buying it new for @450 u.s.d. Is this a tack driver or a mudder?

Thanking all in advance!

A buddy of mine has one in 3006. 5/8" groups at 100 with his handloads. Consistantly. One of the most accurate sporters I've ever seen. I want one.
The bolt actually locks up in the barrel so lockup is perfectly consistant every time, no matter how many times you remove the barrel. Tell him to buy it. It is a superior weapon.

I did a search on this very subject yesterday, and there are about a dozen folks here who have used them. The consistent opinion was that they are very nice rifles. You may want to do a search in this forum, there is some good info.

That is exactly the type of testimonial reply that makes me confident to tell my buddy that he should "go for it"!
As well as any of you folk who may have the same oppurtuntiy, and don't already have a fine rifle.

To all: Thanks once again for the help.

peace

Jaeger, thanks for the description. I'm unfamiliar with this rifle. The design of the bolt is the same sort of thing as described for the new Remington 710, except that the barrel is not removable. Guess maybe that's why they got good groups during testing at G&A.
