Is The P99 QPQ Finish a Bad Choice

I handled a Walther P99 QPQ with the faux stainless slide (I know it's really tennifer coated carbon steel).

That is one pretty gun, thing is, I've heard that the QPQ marks up very easily.

Anyone got any thoughts on how well this finish stands up to usage or any other drawbacks.

While we're on the subject I'm seeing a few threads regarding the poor performance of P99 9mm's and certain brands of ammo, I thought this gun was ultra reliable, what gives ?

Thanks,

Personally, I don't care for the QPQ finish. All of my P99s are blued. As for any reported problems with the P99 9mm, they are few and far between. There were some reported problems with wimpy USA and other 115gr loads, were the problem was apparently alleviated with a lighter recoil spring.

I've NEVER had a failure of any type with my two P99s 9mm that I've fired probably 1000 rounds through, all types, 100gr FL +P+ to 147gr subsonic.

Most of the failures that occured in the P99 were with the .40S&W version early on and were traced to weak magazine springs and/or weak slide release spring IIRC.

Buy the 9mm, it was designed and built for 9mm and it works superbly.

James
