Is the Norinco weapon ban forever?

Pretty much...

About the only way I think Norinco arms of any sort will show up in any quantity here in the US is in the hands of Chinese troops....

Sounds like a good thing to me... now if we could just

get the congress to pass a law banning ALL chinese imports, that would really be a good thing. You know they still make guns here you can buy and some of them are pretty darn good.

Yeah ban Chinese products in full.
Because we don't believe in a free market.

Let's get congress to only sell American stuff, then let's get congress to make us all to do 50 jumping jacks and 20 pushups every morning at 9am, then cut off power and running water to houses after 9 PM.

I wouldn't mind seeing them imported again. I'd buy a Norinco and contribute to the Chinese economy before I'd contribute to US companies which support gun bans and cave in anti-gun lawsuits - Ruger and S&W.

I didn't say ban imports... I said ban CHINESE imports.

There is a big difference between competing in a 'free' market where the materials and products are made by folks who are paid and live the same as us and by folks who make 50 cents a day and then the cost of making the product is then suplimented by the government... a government that doesn't view it's people as more than servants.

Yet WalMart and Northern Tool and a million other importers can import the millions (billions?) of other Chinese-made products, without question.

Apparently, our opposition to socialist labor only manifests itself in purchasing weapons that the citizens of that country can't purchase themselves.

If I believed that this was for the right reasons, I coiuld get behind it.

Hey it protects Colt, Kiimber and Springfields production in Brazil from competition - oh I forgot we are supposed to dislike the Chinese, a country that has bothered nobody outside what they consider their borders since .....Why invade the US when you sell so much to them and you have the funds to buy anything you want there anyway?

We tend to be very selective as to what we won't buy and from whom.

Obviously you didn't consider any one that might be living in Taiwan under the continuous threat of invasion, subjugation, and political purge of the PLA and their communist masters.

The Chi-Coms are not your friends, it just isn't advantageous for them to be openly hostile yet.

Your really have to get out more. Taiwan is/was a product of the Cold War and the Cold War has been over for awhile. China presently owns about a third of your outstanding national debt so I wouldn't be to critical or loose with your 55 year old rhetoric. That kind of talk serves no useful purpose and ignores todays reality.

Norinco firearms where a good thing, and I might add still make an ok shotgun for 85.00 (if you catch a sale). You can thank norinco for me learning that firearms can be enjoyable to shoot. I had 200.00 to buy a shotgun for hunting and if I had been stuck buying a rem 870 I would have stopped there. But thanks to norinco I could buy a .22 and a pile of shotgun shells.

As for their rifles:
Many of you older guys see them as weapons of war, much like your fathers may have seen mausers and M1s. But if you look past that you will see a handy deer rifle or plinker.

Caseless, nothing is forever. However once the government had their excuse to prohibit Chinese imports it would be against their self-interest (both sides of the aisle) to lift the Chinese prohibition. Unless the Republicans refind their manhood (unlikely), the prohibition will continue.

Nothing terrifies the govenrment more than cheap ammunition, $60 CKCs and $250 M14 clones.

Cold War my arse. In the mainland they are still imprisoning Falun Gong practitioners and harvesting their organs. What do you think will happen to Taiwanese Falun Gong followers after they conquer them? What do you think will happen to any person remotely connected to the KMT in the event of take over?

As long as you can get your $50 1911 copies everything the communists do is ok. I guess if you were in Cambodia at the time you'd have happily gone out and slaughtered 1 out of every 3 of your neighbors, as long as you could get the cheap water buffalo the Khmer Rouge promised you.

For all your self-righteous preaching up north you canucks are just as selfish as those 'evil' American CEOs you criticize.

Even without their horrible human rights record the fact that the government-owned company donated campaign funds to Klinton in exchange for an import license that they abused to smuggle hundreds of illegal full-auto AKs into Los Angeles is reason enough to permanently ban them from trade.

yea i want my $300 M14.

no dice. maybe someday. but you can bet american entrepreneurialism is going to inflate the hell out of those prices too. if we're lucky maybe we can find somebody cool enough to buy in bulk and pass the savings onto us before the retail markups hit. just keep your ear to the ground, it can't last forever. the milk of communist china is smelling a little sour these days, i don't think it'll be (relatively) long.

boofus' criticisms noted, i think if we're blocking we should block everything. the vast majority of our goods are made in "bad" countries. i don't see why we block guns but not toys or electronics or clothing. and yes, no western country has any right to criticize us, because we're all pretty much equally culpable in sustaining the social issues that form the foundation of the issues we disagree on.

Your should start your signature with a "d" not a "b". Who mentioned American CEO's? Where did the threat to Taiwan come from? Read your posts. And while you are at it you might want to look at 60's Civil Rights Movement and figure out what that was all about before you start commenting is such a "selfrighteous" way how the Chinese conduct themselves. You seem to be facinated how the rest of the world lives might do you some good to travel and find out.

"Chinks" and "Gooks" well you certainly have the vocabulary one would expect from the thoughtfulness of your posts. Haven't heard the former since the 50's and the latter seems to me to be a more recent term applied to the Vietnamese. As to Taiwan and the Cold War you might want to re-visit the period before commenting further.

$50.00 are you kidding? In your dreams - FYI The Phillipine National Police recently chose the NOrinco 1911 as their sidearm. We just get the basic MIl-Spec 1911 here which from what I has been improved since the guns were imported in to the US. We don't get the "Police Model" which is a step up from the one we get.

Hell every country politically acts in it's own interests. Might surprise you to learn that includes the US.

No need for a water buffalo partner, up here we prefer to drive cars - Toyota Avalon to be exact, made in St. Louis, Miss. Best car I have ever owned.:D You ought to try cars much faster and no smell.;)

Well Mr snotty whitebread canadian know-it-all. You seem to assume a great number of things wrongly. Have you ever been to Taiwan? The people there want nothing to do with the communist government and they get along just fine without them. Ever seen the nightly news there? With the constant talk about military situation on the mainland? Talked to people that actually lived there? The threat of invasion from the mainland is a reality to every single person there. Know anyone personally that practices Falun Gong? Anyone in your family? Got any relatives that are on page #1 of the political purge list?

Didn't think so. Some of us here do. So stop pretending that you have the slightest inkling that you know what's going on over there.

"Mr snotty whitebread canadian know-it-all"

Oooooo we seem to hit a nerve, Unfortunately not much comment. Rather juvenile don't you think?

Well if nothing else if the powers that be in Taiwan keep eveybody in fear they certainly will be able to justify their existance; not an uncommon political tact.

Nope none of my family are in cults. After the Branch Divinian debacle down your way I can understand your fear of government intervention. It will be interesting to see if the Chinese use the same tactics.

To my knowledge, the Canadian Government isn't into recording private conversations and maintaining "list" of Canadians. We prefer to monitor real terrorist threats and leave average Canadians alone. Naw, I figure if they are going to purge me I'll head down to Arizona and visit relatives until the heat blows over. I have it on good authority they drive cars in Arizona so you need not worry about sending over a water buffalo, which is a good thing I hear water buffalo don't do well in the desert.

I had to look at the forum name again, just to be sure someone didn't change it to Romper Room.

The shame of it is, this could've been intelligently debated without resorting to juvenile behavior.

Closed for personal attacks, with apologies to Caseless.
