Is the ac41 p38 safe to shoot?

I shot the AC42 I had a bit. Your Walther made (AC code is Walther) was made a year earlier. The slave made German weapons made near the end of WWII may be a concern. Late 1944 to 1945 but I doubt much in the way of intentional sabotage. Most likely the Axis running out of material and those pesky bombers would cause manufacturing issues.

Do you have a trusted gunsmith? Let that person take a look at it. Maybe a new set of recoil springs and a magazine spring to make it more reliable.

I have a new Walther mag. I thought about changing the recoil springs. I saw a few pics of p38s with cracked slides.

A 1941 Walther should be about as good a P.38 as you could want. At that time they were still making them like civilian guns - well fitted and nicely finished. There were a few improvements the next year, but nothing major.

There should be no problem in shooting it, but avoid any of the "hot" 9mm around today.
