Is THE .22 REALLY THE CHOICE OF HITMEN AND ASSASIANS?

Hey all i have read many times that hitmen and assasians use the 22lr as a killing weapon. Is there any truth to this? Is it just a myth? If you know your going to use a gun why a .22? Why not a 9mm or something bigger?Just read that the Mossard or something like that used .22 Beretta's for years to take people out who were not in their favor.Also heard that silencers are just for hollywood cause a .22 is not that loud anyway. What do you guys think of all this? Thanks 45automan
