Is Styre going out of buisness

I just got my issue of Shotgun News and one of the gun companies was selling Styre pistols for cheap money and they stated that they bought them all and no more will be available. Anyone know if the Styre pistols are done for?

IIRC Steyr is (was?) up for sale, but may have been bought by an Austrian business man.

AFAIK (dig all the net acronyms :) ) Steyr will still be around for some time to come.

I just emailed GSI (the US importer for Steyr) and asked them about the availability of the S-40, they said they said "Steyr has not informed us when the S-40 will be shipped to us. We are trying to get an answer at this time. Please give us 30 to 60 days to get an answer for you."

That doesn't sound to me like Steyr's future is set in stone one way or the other.

I don't think Steyr is going to go out of business or stop exporting their guns to the US.

If you go to the Steyr Mannlicher home page
http://www.steyr-mannlicher.com/

On the German language page the news has been updated (whereas the english page hasn't)

I ran the German news item through Bablefish and here's what it came out as.

If anyone here reads German, I'd love to see a better translation :)

Well, German is my mother tongue, so here it is:

Cura Investholding acquires Steyr Mannlicher from Creditanstalt

With 22.6.2001 Cura Investholding GmbH acquired a 100 percent stake of Steyr Mannlicher AG & Co KG from Creditanstalt. The takeover also includes a 51 percent stake of Suler Jagd- und Sportwaffen Gmbh which is owned by Steyr Mannlicher.

The well known advantages of Steyr Mannlicher products - precision, quality and innovation - are going to be improved and will, in conjunction with modern management, help to secure the current market position.

In the fiscal year 2000 Steyr Mannlicher AG & Co KG had a gross revenue of 16 million Euro and employed approximately 135 workers.

The new owner of the company is going to bring about new management capacities and new industrial standards. One essential part concerning the new company policy deals with the reduction of the product line and will thus enable more efficient marketing. Particulary for the significant American export market, distribution agreements will be made, in order to expand the market share. Cooperations in the production area (in concert with Suhl) should result in a reduction of production costs.

Please don't hurt me for grammatical errors ;)

Don't know for sure, but CDNN may have bought the last of the ones that were being offered earlier this year by GSI as "demo", "refurbs" etc. to dealers at the price they are offering. The kicker is the 1 mag. NIB Steyr M/S series come STANDARD with 2 mags. So their price is not great, if you count the 2nd mag, it comes to $395, which is about what they were wholesaleing for before the wholesalers ran out. And those were NIB, not "refurbs", or reworks. Now I like CDNN, I've bought from them before, but I don't like the tactic of charging extra for the mags that are supposed to come with it.

Granted, now that imports have been SUSPENDED temporarily, if you want one NOW, then that's a good price. But I fully believe that GSI will be importing them before the end of the year.

FWIW, I paid $415 for my M357 DELIVERED, and $425 for my S9 DELIVERED. Excellent prices for good pistols. :D To buy from CDNN, I would have to pay TX sales tax :(

Unfortunately, GSI is not too prompt in responding to emails. I sent them a note about a .40 S&W barrel, and mags to add to my M357 and they never responded. May have to call them on Monday.

M357 shoots great. Haven't shot the S9 yet.

Steyr

Here's my read on the situation:
Steyr leased the factory that they built their products in. Recently, the land and buildings were sold to BMW who is going to make cars at that site. Therefore, Steyr has no factory to produce guns from.

What they are going to do is still up in the air. I'd hate to see this company just disappear...
