Is Steyr gone?

Here is the post from the glock talk forum:

I´ve received an email from Willhem Bubits (The designer of the Steyr M & S Models and reads :
Dear Jose,

thank you for your request.

First to your gun, - accesories for the gun are tritium nightsights, holster-magazine-box, and shoulder stock.

Please let me know, in witch country you are living!
In USA GSI is the importer but there could be a change in the next weeks, because last monday steyr was bought by an private Austrian man.
He will reorganize the whole steyr company at the same location where steyr is still now.
There is no stop of the production of steyr goods and no stop of selling!
The problem with GSI is in one way which i cannot tell you, but one thing is absolutly clear steyr can deliver all the products to USA!
I heard that GSI tells that steyr cannot deliver-this is not true!

Interesting. CDNN, a company I trust, had a flyer in my last shipment saying that no more Steyrs were going to be imported. They were closing out their Steyr pistol holdings with what looked to be some decent prices. Maybe just a scare tactic from them but that is not the kind of business I have come to expect from those guys.

I hope Steyr keeps importing their guns. The M series (don't know about the S series) is a totally underappreciated gun. The ergonomics are first-rate (comfortable to hold and points naturally), the trigger is excellent for a striker fired gun, and the innovative sights are great once you get used to them. The safeties are also impressive. My M9 has been totally reliable and accurate. It's the gun Glock could have been if they were more innovative.

Don't make me laugh.

"It's the gun Glock could have been if they were more innovative."

I doubt Glock wants any part of the "wild success" that Steyr has here in the US, they're quite happy with their market share.

I am not arguing that the Glock is better, or even as good, as a corresponding Steyr pistol, that's not the point. They are very good at shipping lots of guns at attractive profit margins, and that's what it's all about when you're in a business!

I'm a Steyr Bigot, for 2 reasons:

1) I own a Steyr M40
2) Glocks draws blood from my hands

Glocks would do well to take some of the Steyr innovations, innovations I might add that were offered to Glock for free..

Fully support barrel
better ergonomics
Non-mushy trigger
better ergonomics
Secondary external safeties as options
better ergonomics
mag eject buttons that don't draw blood from left handed shooters
better ergonomics
kick ass sights
better ergonomics
steel wrapped by polymer, not steel empregnated into polymer

Oh, did I mention better ergonomics?

What are Glock's claim to fame?

Low Bore Axis ~ Steyr's is lower
Tenifer ~ Steyr has that too
3 safeties ~ Steyr has 5
Accurate ~ Steyr is accurate as hell

So I don't see how a Steyr is not better in every way. But to each his/her own. Don't want to start a glock flame war here.

Albert.

P.S. Glock owners can make fun if they want, but deep down, just like a 6 foot German Ubermodel named Heidi, you know you really want one! You just aren't sure you can handle that much of a good thing... and that's why you make fun of it.

twoblink,

If you think I'm trying to start a Glock war, you're way off target! Glock and Steyr are both in business to make money, right? Well, I submit that Glock has done a much better job of it, regardless of the quality of their product. They get significant dollars for a gun that has a very low production cost, pretty smart business if you ask me.

Once again, I make no judgments about the quality or shootability of either gun, that wasn't the point at all. You should read the replies carefully before you make judgments.

If anyone should know what's up with Steyr, it's Willy Bubits.
Not going to toss any of the Glock's I own but the M40 has proven it's the "better" pistol in my paw than the Glock 23 or 22.
