Is silver solder too hot for a shotgun barrel?

I talked to a local gunsmith about attaching a sight ramp (front) to a shotgun barrel. He is reluctant to do it; he says no soft solder is strong enough, that it needs to be silver soldered. However, the silver solder process is so hot it could alter the metallurgy of the barrel. Is he correct? Is his concern valid?

No, it's "parkerized", but I'm told it's not really parkerized. My first priority is getting a sight I can work with and that will STAY ON (lost 2 so far); refinishing isn't real important, as long as it protects the steel. Bake-on telfon has been suggested, and that's fine.

try a thick coating of accuglass bedding compound, it won't take much heat, but shotguns usually don't heat up all that much. the parkarization should give the epoxy a good place to set hold.
