have a 14+ pound double action trigger pull!!!

I have a West German PPK/s in 99% condition. Looks like it's been test fired only. The single action pull is fine but the DA seems WAY to much. Is this normal?

Thanks!

Chris

Well, Chris, I'm envious. My PPK/s (U.S. made) has a DA pull approaching 20 pounds. (It is a little difficult to measure, my gauage doesn't make it out that far.) Like you, I think the SA pull is reasonable, but the DA is stout!

Is it a .380 or a .22 rimfire?

Mine's a .380.

Mine too. I thought maybe if you had one of the rimfires they might have a heavier pull for some reson. Mine is a W. German manufactured .380 and the pull feels like about ten pounds but I have no pull gauge. If it is heavier than that is sure doesn't feel like it. It is lighter than the double action pull on any of my S&W revolvers that I have left stock.

Designers of small DA auto pistols have a problem. The energy required to ignite a primer comes from the combination of the hammer weight and the spring power. A small gun normally has a small, light hammer, so it almost demands a heavier spring, which means a heavier trigger pull. That PP/PPK trigger pull can be reduced some by normal smoothing techniques, but it will still be fairly heavy and suitable (as was intended) only for very short range shooting.

It's a .380

I think my estimate of 14# is onthe low side.

Well, it seems the consenses is that it's normal for this to have a heavy pull.

I may send it to Earl's for some trigger work.

Thanks guys!

The Walther will always have a nasty stiff DA pull what ever you do with it. The SA pull can be just as good as a nicely tuned Colt 1911 though. For what the gun is designed to do that stiff DA pull is just the ticket compared to a 3lb cocked pull on a tuned gun. The darn things take too light and smooth of a SA pull for a **** your drawers situation in your face. At 3 feet that stiff DA pull will not seem so light. :) :)
