Is my Rem 700 a bdl or a cdl?

I just got this gun today and after searching on the internet I don't know if it is a BDL or a CDL. Any help is appreciated. I notice the checkering designs on the wood are different than I have seen before. I apologize for the poor quality picture. The bolt is jeweled, it has a floor plate, and it has the black tip on the fore end.

Technically speaking a CDL is a version of the BDL with a more classic looking stock. You have an older, much older BDL. This was the original stock design. At some point Remington changed to the flashy modernistic looking BDL design trying to copy the Weatherby rifles.

There is a date code stamped on the barrel. You can look up when made here.

ADL= blind magazine
DBM= detachable box magazine
BDL= any with a floorplate. This includes the Classic, CDL, SPS, or anything with a floorplate.

They have made countless versions of each over the years. Lots of people try to get real specific, but if has a floorplate it is BDL

Everything was pretty simple until a few years ago when Remington discontinued both ADL and BDL. The replaced the ADL with the SPS and the BDL with the CDL. They really confused things when they brought back the ADL and BDL in limited production.

Hmmmm. The guy told me it's from the 80's. Would one from the 60's be more valuable? I like the gun because it looks brand new, but I hate it because it's a 30-06. I'm not sure what to do with it.

According to that chart this gun was manufactured in March, 1973. That makes it much older than me :). It sure is a pretty gun

I have one identical to yours, also in .30-06. At that time, Remington was using pressed checkering, meaning that the checkering was pressed into the wood in a kind of reverse fashion, as opposed to cut checkering.

looks about the same as my custom 17 Fireball... ( was originally a 17 Remington with a burnt out throat ) seen here patiently awaiting a new Burris 4.5 - 14 scope with the C-4 wind reticle

I just don't care for the '06, not to mention I have more than one of them. I like to be unique and not use the same caliber at the hunting camp as everyone else and everyone there shoots a 30-06. I'm a little shocked that someone traded me this gun yesterday. I had a Remington 700 adl synthetic .243 with a $50 Simmons scope on it, and the guy wanted it..... So I walked away with this. Scope and all. The scope is a swift 4-12x50. It's not the most expensive scope, but it's surely better than the Simmons that was on the .243.

The gold trim on the end cap and grip cap along with a better wood would make it a CDL, it appears that you have a BDL rifle.

17 Remington is known to be hard on barrels... & this is a rifle my FIL used to take out Prairie Dogging, & he was a big 17 Remington fan ( so I don't know how many rounds it's had through it ) not to mention, he like to push them fast & hot, which I'm sure didn't help the barrel life ( I was with him one time, watching the bullets disintegrate before they got to the target :eek: )
