Is Loudoun County, VA Gun-Friendly?

Just wondering about that neck of the woods. I was told that neighboring Fairfax County is liberal and not so friendly to gun owners, but that Loudoun County is different.

Info appreciated.

Dander,

I live in Fairfax County and find it's quite "gun friendly". To be sure, if the county could unilaterally override Virginia statutes, it would likely be more "anti gun". However, the key point is Fairfax cannot do this.

To illustrate, in Fairfax a CCW permit is obtained under the same regulations as anywhere else in the Commonwealth -- and without fingerprinting, which is not true in some other Virginia jurisdictions. On the other hand, Fairfax requires a three-day "waiting period" to purchase a handgun, while surrounding counties (such as Prince William) do not.

In sum, Virginia is relatively "pro firearms" and Fairfax complies with state laws.

With respect to Loudoun, my experience is it's comparatively more favorably oriented toward firearms ownership than is Fairfax.

Hey, Dander - I also live in Fairfax Co. and second what RWK said. Loudon was predominenetly rural a few years ago, but is rapidly suburbanizing (lots of AOL & .com $$), so you will like start to run into more soccer moms and assoted whiners, but overall, it is 'gun-friendly' like the rest of VA. If you're up this way, drop me a line, be happy to hook you up with the local ranges, etc. M2

I'm in Fairfax County, too, Fairfax address.

It's OK, not great. Luckily a county bid a year or so ago to get guns excluded in a LOT of places failed.

Unfortunatly, my district supervisor was one of the ones driving the proposal.

He and I had a couple of long conversations about the subject. He probably would have pooped himself had he known that I had a gun on me while we were talking! :)
