Is it worth it?

I have a maverick 88 shotgun with a 28" barrel and I have found out recently that I shoot best (In skeet, which is the only thing I use a shotgun for) with my uncle's 590 (46/50). I do not own the 590 so I want to buy a short barrel for my maverick, and that will cost a little over 70 bucks. I could buy the barrel, or sell my gun and buy the home security model that costs 150 dollars. By doing that I could get what I want and not have to wait and have a new gun.

To do that I would need to sell my moderately used maverick 88 with 97-99% blueing for 80 bucks. Would a gunshop give me this much for it? BTW, it retails for 140 dollars.

Thanks in advance,

I wouldn't sell the maverick. You can't get anything for it. If the gun retails for $140 then a gun shop might give you 40 or 50 bucks. You can sell it privatly and get a little more probably 80 but there's the cost of running ads etc. You want to make sure you abide by your local laws too. I have been burned too many times by selling guns to purchase new ones. My advice is to keep what you've got and wait untill you have the money saved. I look back and see all the guns I've sold for way less than they were worth and it makes me sick. :barf:

$70 or so for the short barrel is one of the 'least painful' methods of doing what you want. Another benny is that you are already familiar with the Maverick 88's controls. Then you have a shotty for whatever needs you have with about a 1-minute changeover...long barrel for "field & woods" use, and the short tube for deer hunting and Homeland Security purposes.
