is it worth it...

I have a S&W Brazil Contact 1917 I paid $75 for about 5 years ago. Great barrel. Mechanically very good. Shoots well. Only mechanical flaw is that the ejector rod needs to be straightened.

Appearance wise, the outside of the barrel has pitting, there are lots of scratches and a gouge or two, and the finish is about 60% at best.

I love the gun. Is it worth putting a few hundred into getting the gun tuned up and refinished? I'm never selling it. Just wondering if I'm tossing money away.

if thats all thats wrong with it

then of course its worth it. Any well done custom gun is always worth doing. below is a poicture of my 1917 also a brazialian contract. its had the following done:
1) action smoothed
2) action parts blued
3) orange insert in modified front sight
4) green parkerized rest of gun.
5) I found an old set of camo pachmayr presation grips for it as well. they look great!

I also have obtained a 3" barrel for it. when I have the time and cash to spare I will havr it fitted in place of the 5" and finished to match the rest of the gun(parkerized green)

If it shoots fine, leave it. Tuning it up doesn't alter the appearance of the exterior though and if it's needs servicing in this regards, go ahead. I don't like the idea of changing originl finish - ruins collector's value for future owners.

Might be a good "do it yourself project" ... not much invested in it to begin with. Worst case, if you mess something up .. you could go with plan "B" .. refinishing it! :p
