Is it worth it......

Is the Colt repop 70 series worth the extra cost just to eliminate the series 80 safety parts?

To be honest about it, the only time I usually notice any significant difference in the triggers, is when I don't shoot one or the other for a while.

I don't own any two 1911's whose triggers are identical.
Even at the same measured weight they still each have their
very own feel.:)

I'm one of those people that doesn't have a problem with the HiPower trigger. The only time that it feels gritty and heavy to me is after I shoot a lot of .22 LR's. Half of that is because my Buckmark seems to have a great trigger.
So for me, no. My shooting issues have nothing to do with trigger quality.

And this topic has nothing to do with HiPowers. :D

You know, you can have a pistolsmith remove the S80 parts without any drama, but your pistolsmith would also have to suck to not be able to give you a really good trigger with the S80 parts still in place. I had the S80 parts removed from my Delta Elite so I could have an AFTEC extractor installed and it didn't affect the trigger in any way I could tell.

I think the new S70 guns look neato, but they aren't worth the money Colt is charging for them. When I can get a nice looking new Colt Government Model for $550-600, why in the world would I spend ~$300 for what amounts to a better blue job and leaving some parts off?!?

BTW, a very nice blue job runs about $100 last I checked.

I'm glad to see that...

some of us are on the same Tectonic plate...I may be a cradle to the grave Colt fan, but the repro just ain't worth it!!!!!!!:(

Folks, compare the new Colt S70 to a similar 1911, the Kimber Custom Royal. That one sells for about $1000, so it shows that the cost to finish the pistol in a bright polished blue is quite a bit of dough. CastleBravo, I've seen the $100 blue jobs can tell you that you wouldn't want one of your babies maltreated that way! Years ago I had a place in Florida do a Springfield in polished blue for $125. They buffed the living crap out of it!

My only real complaint regarding the new S70 finish is that the edges are still sharp. One would think that they would break all the edges before bluing, but no.

There is a definite difference the trigger pull with the S80 part vs. S70. You should be able to notice anywhere from .5 to 1 pound difference. Unfortunately here in California that’s a non-issue since a S70 style safety wouldn’t pass the state required drop test.
