Is it too late?

These are valid questions. I know the answers. We are screwed.

If you know the answers, why bother posting a thread about it except to satisfy your own narcissism?

Im 40 and expect something big to happen in this country before I bite the dust.Thats assuming I live to 80.

Definition: Narcissism, in human psychology is the pattern of thinking and behaving which involves infatuation and obsession with one's self to the exclusion of others. It may be seen manifest in the chronic pursuit of personal gratification and public attention, in social dominance and personal ambition, braggadocio, insensitivity to others (lack of empathy) and/or excessive dependence on others to meet his/her responsibilities in daily living and thinking.

Hmm, not bad. A flame hidden behind large words.

Nevermind. I thought it would spark some discussion. No matter. I suppose I should have said: I think I know the answers. Am I correct?

Ptown, I think it can go in two directions.

The govrnment will strip us of right's little by little, until we have nothing.. but it will be done over a period of time, so we wont notice it or care.. "Oh it's just full auto's, doesnt apply to me,.... Oh it's just shotguns, doesnt apply to me I hunt with a rifle,.... Oh it's just rifles, I carry concealed,... Oh it's just semi's I carry a wheel"...Then it's YOU.

The other path is that the American people will some day put up arm's against the government which has already put up arm's against it's own people.

PTown,

MV is good people, just takes some time to get used to :).

But, I'll answer:

1. Are we really free?

No. If we were free, then we could do to ourselves as we thought fit. As long as we don't infringe on others (as per the Constitution and Bill of Rights, not the made up stuff that they want us to do now days) then we should have the right to do anything we wish. And then you get into property ownership, etc..

2. Do we really have the right to bear arms or are we simply "allowed"?

Allowed. Until some pols can get 51% of the "People" to agree, we are allowed to own them. Once it hits 51%, then Mr and Mrs America, turn them all in.

3. How long before the federal government alleviates the need for state government?

We're seeing that now. In Oregon the government (feds) are trying to tell the People, the voters, that what they voted for, is null and void and they have final say. Ex. Assisted Suicide and Marijuana for medical use.

4. How long before free speech is no longer free?

Already happened. You do know the laws on "hate speech" don't you? You can be charged with it.

5. If we are so free, why are their roadblocks on our roads to check for "drunk" drivers?

Drunk driving does harm allot of people. The law should be that they are put into jail, cars are taken, and their DL's pulled for life. That is if they are caught. No road blocks should be put up for any reason. Oregon, as liberal as it is, bans road blocks of any type. It's a strange state, half liberal and half conservative, Part Free, Part slave.

6. Why do we have to get a prescription for cold medicine while pot smokers just grow it in their backyard?

You're in Oregon aren't you :). Nice to meet you friend. I live in Eugene :).

7. Why are gun owners attacked every session while criminals are given "treatment"?

Yeah, the bill that would give a maxium sentence to peds who rape kids that cournty (I don't know how to spell their names) and what's his face pissed me off also. And now they want to give meth addicts all this free treatment and such on our dime... no, I don't think so!

8. Why does the local sherriff me the evil eye because I carry while he lets criminals out of Jail Early?

Portland? In Eugene we have a very conservative and likeable Sheriff. Move this way friend, get out of "blue" Oregon.

9. Why can't I stop someone from stealing my car and why can't we shoot those that are invading our country?

I'll leave this one alone. This is probably what the other members got a "chill" from when reading. I think that we should close our borders but I don't think that an all out "hunting season" is warrented. Deportation is what is warrented.

10. Why is "conservative" and "religion" a bad word?

Because they want to demonize those that are. When people have a set values or morales that they try to live by, this creates fear in others because they don't want to live by any morals, or values and thus look upon those that do as a threat. This generation has a "do it because it feels good" attitude while others have a "don't do it because it's wrong" sort of attitude.

#10 is especially vague but as to why some people react negatively to them in law, I think its that its generally your interpertation of the christian religion. People wind up just saying they're conservative values instead of religious values, then both wind up with the bad name.

You ask if we're really free and thats where the rub comes with religion. We're not free if people legislate their religions as law. Keep religion and law seperate and you'll never hear a peep out of me, try to bring them together and I turn into a loud mouthed athiest libertarian. ;)

Another point that needs to be brought up, where IMO, govt is seriously stepping over the line: Laws that require motorcycle riders to wear helmets and people in automobiles to wear seatbelts. These two seem especially ridiculous to me.

If someone wants to ride their motorcycle without a helmet or doesn't want to buckle up in a car, regardless of whether you think it's a bad idea or not, they should be able to make that decision for themselves. That decision will only affect them in an accident. Seems like a basic life decision that the govt should not have control over.

Look at it from the govt's point of view. They are telling us that they know what's best for the public, and if the public won't make the right decision, they will make that decision for the people, and punish them with fines if they don't cooperate. Am I crazy to think that someday they may try to take away full auto weapons because "they know what's best for the people?" And we know that's just the beginning. All they need is a foot in the door and then they'll start working on all guns.

AVIZPLS. Is your quote (from where?) mixing up codeine (a morphine derivative) or crystal meth cooked from pseudoephedrine HCI and marijuana?
Cut back dude :D..

Russ,

Another point that needs to be brought up, where IMO, govt is seriously stepping over the line: Laws that require motorcycle riders to wear helmets and people in automobiles to wear seatbelts. These two seem especially ridiculous to me.

Agreed. I wear my seatbelts and I wear a helment while on my motorcycle, yet I agree that to wear or not to wear is an individual decision.

The agrument that most will put forth is the taxpayers having to pay for the decisions of others, my only thought is this, why does the government (state/feds) make it mandatory for me, the tax payer, to pay for the decisions of others.

Wayne

USP,

I agree completely with your statement as to why we have to pay for their decisions in the first place. It just isn't right to me. Anyways, I've had some people bring up the point that taxpayers have to pay for the injured person's medical bills, so they justify the seatbelt law. However, it can also be looked at as someone who is not wearing a seatbelt or helmet may instantly die, and would have very low medical bills as compared to someone who is sitting in a hospital for a month, recovering. Just a different way to look at it.

Another interesting point: Our tax dollars pay for highway funding. We pay for those roads, yet it is not up to us, the taxpayers, to decide on some of the most basic laws, such as seat belt wearing, helmet wearing, location and installation of new red lights/stop signs, speed limits, etc.

Sulaco

The quote was one of the questions asked in the begginning of the thread. Mine was a reply of jocularity.

Just color me suspicious - it seems as though lately we have had quite a few new members floating in here trying to stir up discussion about armed resistance to both government and freelance criminals, and it just makes me wonder how many are agents provocateur from either the government or liberal media trying to get anyone here to say something criminal, racist, or otherwise stupid and inappropriate in order to paint all gun owners in the most unflattering colors, or prosecute someone under the USA PATRIOT act, or shut down this site, or all three.

If you think we're screwed, you probably don't live in New Hampshire.

The great state of SC has a mandatory seat belt law, yet allows motorcyclists to ride without helmets.

Ya know, I don't really care what the legislature decides. . . .just make it freakin' consistent. This is the kind of nonsense that gives idiots and government a bad name.
