Is it still possible to get a Makarov in Kali?

After all this reading about them, I really want to check one out, especially since the price is less then I spend on an average Friday night (being single rules).

Can I still buy one here? How would I do so?

Go to the link posted above and look under "Feg. Hungary (Hungarian Arm Works)" and "Bulgarian (Century Int'l Arms)" in the menu. These are the only Makarov for sale in California that aren't used.

Wow. You should be able to get a PA-63 for just over $100 if you buy off the 'net and do an FFL transfer. FFL transfers legal in CA?

Yes - FFL transfers are legal

If you _really_ shop around, you may be able to find a transfer
agent that will do it for around $25 (including DROS). They will
typically charge you CA sales tax on the transfer even for out of
state sales (which seems a little suspicious to me).
More commonly, it will run you $35 for FFL (not including DROS)
and shipping ($20). You would have to pay the DROS and tax
anyway, so if you can save $55 off the local price, it is probably
worth the effort.

I was under the impression that the FA63 wasn't nearly as
comfortable and reliable as the Mak. For $200, it would probably
be worth spending a little more and getting a CZ83 or a Bersa.

The FEG PA-63 is a decent little pistol - but it isn't a Makarov (the confusion comes about because it shoots the 9mm Makarov cartridge). California recently approved the Bulgarian Makarovs for sale. Prior to that, you could buy East German and Russian (I think) Makarovs because they are on the Curio and Relic list. I'm not sure how many Bulgarian Makarovs are avaialble right now, but I suspect that more will show up before long (I don't think the importer would have gone to the expense of submitting them for testing if they weren't planning to import more). I have a couple of PA-63s and a couple of Bulgarian Makarovs. I like them all, but prefer the Maks. I think they should retail for around $150-$170 each when they become widely avaialble.
