Is it possible to bump fire a semi handgun?

I figured the full-auto guys might know about this.

I read once about a guy bumpfiring a GLock by putting his support thumb in the trigger guard infront of the trigger finger. Has anyone done this? I have not been able to find a better explaination, or better yet a video.

It would be inpractical, but fun to do once in a while.
 
It's a great way to get hurt. It would be too easy for the barrel to get past vertical and end up throwing rounds into the air or even into the shooter.
 
I wouldn't recommend doing that with a handgun unless it's stocked. Bump firing is more common to do with a semi-auto rifle/carbine because you have more control, but with a handgun it will be hard to control and like what OneInTheChamber said, it might throw rounds up in the air or even worse.
 
I really don't recommend trying to bumpfire a standard handgun. Sounds like a good invitation for something stupid to happen.

Now, if you have a handgun where the magazine is inserted forward of the grip, that's a possibility. You can (attempt to) use the magazine as a forward grip while you try to bumpfire, and if it will feed with you hanging onto the magazine, it should work.
 
Why would you want to? You could probably learn a technique to let you do it but then again, if you put that much effort into learning to shoot in incorrectly...you could put that much effort into learning to shoot it correctly and be a better pistolero.:confused:
 
On youtube there are videos of a person bump firing a mac-10 type pistol, that's fitted with a fake suppressor. He held the suppressor with his supporting hand. Under the comments he was ridiculed for having his supporting hand just behind the muzzle. Cool vid though :)
 
When I bought my first glock a G26 trying to get used to the trigger and small grip after years of 1911s I mistakenly and with much surprise bump fired an entire magazine. I wouldn't recommend it.
 
Bob Munden does this in some of his shooting demonstrations. Can't remember which pistol he uses for certain, but I think it's a Hi-Power.
 
It was a 1911 syle handgun if i remember correctly. Was pretty impressive, but he's an exhibition shooter and knows what he's doing.
 
I saw some pictures of guy who's forward vertical grip came loose on a micro uzi and his hand ended up getting shot several times.

Now that was no fault of his own;

BUT, if you try to bump fire and that happens to you I'll just have to chime in with a "I told you so" moment here.
 
I've seen it done with a CZ75 9mm, 15 round magazine and one in the chamber. The weapon emptied very quickly.

I originally posted this with a description of how the demonstrator proudly went through how to do it. Then I thought, why publish a 'how to....' of a questionable trick. Because it sounded impressive, looked absurd, and he hit damn all, at 7 metres.

It did not impress the range officers.
 
Unless the handgun bumping trick could be done one handed at arms length, I'm not that interested. Even then, it sounds like something that is tricky enough that I could put the same amount of practice towards being faster just on semi auto.
