Is it possible for a rifle (ak47) to be damaged during shipping?

I just bought a SA M7 Arsenal Ak47. Despite the high price tag, the gun came in a cheap cardboard box. During shipping the charging handle poked through the box and has blemished on the edge.

Anyone else had this happen to them? Should this even be a concern?

Thanks,

J

Yes it is possible for any type of rifle to be damaged during shipping. I ordered a rifle from a guy one time and he shipped it in one of those cheep plano "hard plastic" gun cases. Well I will tell you those cases were not designed for shipping and when the rifle arrived the case was so badly damaged it was unusable and the buttstock of the rifle was exposed causing the wood and metal buttplate to be scratched up. Plus there was some rust from where water had entered the case. Come to find out the guy did not actually purchase shipping insurance on the weapon like I payed for so I received a full refund. Did your weapon have shipping insurance? If it did and the weapon is damaged you should be covered. If not I would contact the seller and explain the situation. If all you have is a blemish it should be okay as the AK can stand up to a lot worse than that.

Buds Gun Shop shipped me a mosin nagant. They packaged it by just putting the rifle in a cardboard box. When it arrived the bolt handle had broken through the side of the box.

For the price Arsenal charges for their AKs, I'd be on the phone looking for an RMA tag and a replacement rifle shipped with adequate packaging.

From my own experience I doubt there exists such a thing as completely adequate packaging if the shipping gorillas decide to play with your rifle. On a good day it would be entirely possible for a nuclear waste containment vessel to be breached in a cross-town move it seems.

If it's not too bad you might just touch it up a little bit and then go put a couple of spam cans of ammo through it to see if you like it or not.

You did not purchase an AR. You can repair your rifle with a big hammer and a swift kick. Your rifle can be used by any two bit nation's most illiterate conscripts to fight elite forces worldwide. A little scuff on the charging handle just adds character

You paid for a new rifle in perfect condition......you didn't get it.

Contact whoever sold it to you about getting a replacement.

Yes, I thought about contacting the distributor and the manufacturer to have it replaced. It is a $2000 rifle after all, and I am a little disappointed. But the damage is actually very minimal and I'm sure the gun works fine. Do you think they will still replace it?

Has anyone ever dealt with Arsenal or K-Var and their AK rifles?

Thanks

All of my Arsenal rifles came in the cardboard box with a hole worn by the charging handle. I don't care because I am just gonna shoot the hell out of them.

$2000 for an AK? Wow, does it reload it's own ammo? ;)

Ok, seriously now. Is there a 1 MOA guarantee with it? What makes an AK worth so much?

I wouldnt worry about the shipping damage. I would worry about the poor quality control and lack of effort in protecting their product during shipment. Especially US or Canadian companies that do such a poor job of putting parts kits together that they have faced lawsuits over customers who have injured themselves firing guns with out of spec actions. :D

@RT

RT. Interesting, so you're saying that all Arsenal AK's come that way? What were the extent of the damage to your charging handle? Mine came with a red rubber protector that has been worn out causing the finish on the charging handle to wear off as well.

Now that I think about it my AK's charging handle is slowly tearing through its soft guns case. All the foam around it has been worn off and now I think it is working its way through the fabric.

I just got a new Arsenal SGL-31 last week, and yes it came in a rather plain white box. When I opened the box however, covering the charging handle was a red rubber cap.

I think it is common for Arsenal rifles to wear a hole in the white box during shipping. Mine just had a little blemish on the charging handle. Didn't matter to me since they are all shooters. However, if I had a sweet milled rifle like yours, then I think I'd be a bit more OCD.

So i guess im being too picky. I'll just keep the rifle and see if I like it. Just bothers me why they can't at least put foam in the packaging for a high-dollar rifle.
