I live in California I have no Conceled Weapon License just a regular old gun license or reciept. Is it legal to carry a loaded rifle in your car? I know im going to get alot of "Are you grazy!!" But im just curious if it is against the law I know its against the law obviously to carry them out \side the car loaded.

Is it legal to keep a unloaded rifle with ammo near by in your car im pretty sure the answer to that is yes but is it only two and fro some thing that involves using it such as the range or hunting? And if used as self defense would it stick in court?

Actually it's not legal. Ammo has to be stored in a separate (and locked, if I recall correctly) container than the weapon does.

In other words, listen to what Number 6 said, go to www.packing.org and find out! :D

It is not legal to carry a loaded rifle in your car. You can however carry it unloaded with a loaded magazine right next to it on the seat! Be carefull though, loaded means "attached in any manner", so the those those stock shell carriers for shotguns would be out as an example. Also a "consealable" weapon, I.E. pistol must be carried unloaded and also in a locked container(not the glove box) or the trunk. This is not commonly known and my CA LE brothers will probably be unhappy that I am spilling the beans but anti-gun laws are unconstitutional anyway :p

Depends on the state. It's legal in Alaska. However, considering the other police state trends in the socialist paradise of Kalifornia it's rather doubtful you could even have a loaded super-soaker in a vehicle there.

I believe that a motor vehicle has the same conotations as a home in that you can have anything in it you want as long as it is not an illegal substance or there is no specific law against it such as would be in a park or game management area. Thats the case in the south at any rate. You think aobut it and if it were not so, how could you go hunting?
The packing laws are different and allows the carriers to dictate how they must be prepared for transport and the airlines require, unloaded, boxed ammo can be in the case with the gun, and a locked case (I have traveled with my guns since 9/11 and that was the case). :o

I left Kommiefornia in 1970 permanently. Even back then, a rifle had to be unloaded. Unloaded meant no shells in the chamber or magazine. Moved to Nevada. Shells in magazone was OK, but none in chamber. Moved to Arizona, fully loaded magazine and chamber OK. Dumb to have loaded chamber, but it's legal. Hunted oregon a few times years ago. Loaded magazine was OK then, don't know about now. Hunted Washington State once, Law was like Kommiefornia, nothing in magazine of chamber. You couldn't even lean a loaded rifle against the truck, or lay it on the hood of the vehicle while taking a break. I never went back.

In Colorado, the rifle must not have a bullet in the chamber when being transported. An attached magazine is "probably" okay. To be safe, I would detach the magazine too.

In addition to criminal statutes, you should check out the Fish & Game statutes and regulations for your home state. New Hampshire has some anti-poaching measures in force that are probably unconstitutional in the wake of Article 2-a.

Yep, do so. The DNR will probably nab you for more under poaching laws around here than the police will for weapons laws.

For a while I believe it was illegal to carry a concealed weapon anywhere that could be construed as a hunting area, if you didn't have the proper license.
