Is it legal in Arizona to give another person a handgun as a gift?

From what I understand, the receiver must be of age (at least 18) not be mentally handicapped, convicted felon or convicted of domestic abuse. The receiver also can't give you money to purchase a firearm for them if I understand correctly.

The person in question I want to gift a handgun to is my father, however, I want to make it a surprise and I'm pretty darn sure he's never committed a crime or anything of the sort.

Arizona being a right to bare arms state (if memory serves) I don't know if I need to have paperwork filled out in his name or if I need to do something to transfer ownership to him of I purchase it, even as a gift.

Can someone please clarify this?

As long as you are also a resident of Arizona, you can gift a gun to anyone that can legally posses a gun that is also a resident of Arizona. Arizona has no purchase permits or registration of guns, so no forms to be filled out. If you are not a resident then the transfer would have to go through a FFL.

Excellent, thankyou Wally. I am a resident of Arizona and so is my father, that helps clear things up.
