After reading the article on the Glocks in Aussie Land that were being <cough> accidentally discharged I had a revelation.
Why is it when a person commits a crime with a Glock the media ALWAYS yells GLOCK. Yet, if a criminal uses a Beretta, Sig, or anything else they tend not to focus on what type of gun it is. Especially when it was the office shootings in Atlanta, the news mentioned on several occasions that it was a Glock 19 like the gun was the devil himself. Anyway just my little opinion :)

I guess "Glock" just sounds dangerous. Beretta sounds like a priest's cap, and Colt is a cute horse.

The Washington Post once described a shootout between a BG armed with a "Glock semi-automatic handgun" and a Maryland State Police officer armed with "his Beretta service pistol." I sent them an e-mail asking just what h**l the difference was, but got no reply. It's all in the spin, folks.

Perhaps these media types hold a grudge because of the fact that their preemptive strike on the "evil black plastic invisible-to-xrays safetyless hijackers pistol" back when it was first introduced did nothing to dent the massive popularity of these pistols?

Good point Tamara. I think the press/media probably sold more Glocks than any "paid" advertising that Gaston and his bunch could ever possibly concieve. :D

I'm sure that they now realize that and resent the fact that they helped sales. :)

Yep, helped me to make a decision. Never know when you want to smuggle one of these past the metal detector. :) JOKE ALERT, JUST KIDDING. :)
 
Perhaps it's only brand recognition. Glocks are so ugly--er--that is um er--distinctive that people say "Yep, it was a Glock all right." Anything else, and they say, "Damn, he had a gun."

The Anti's too, recognize the Glock as the pinicacle of the hand gun! It is the combat gun which other have tried become or be better than. It was a breath of new life in 1985 and has been copied and followed ever since.

Not that it was the first plastic gun or perhabs even the best (IMHO) but because it was and still is the leader of the pack.

And I agree with Tarmara.
 
this is pretty ridiculous. i have heard numerous people refer to semi-automatic handguns as "glocks". so now i guess the 2 classes of handguns are revolvers and glocks instead of revolvers and pistols.

don't blame glock because they're so popular and great. its not their fault. :D
 
Glock, like ".45" or "Nine" is becoming a generic term for handguns among thugs, rappers, and wannabes (which seems to be nearly everybody else.)

In rap music, "Glock" and "Gat" were interchangeable for awhile, just like every copy machine is a Xerox and all tissues are Kleenex.

While not a GLOCK owner, I second Don Gwinn's notion...

I once saw a newscast where an inner-city, 39-year-old grandmother was jumping up and down shouting, "Yeah, yeah, and then he pulled out a silver GLOCK and started shootin' the place up! It was crazy!"

It all comes back to the "full-automatic 45 mm revolver, semi-automatic machine-gun," school of firearms knowledge.

I'm just waiting for the media to make this connection:

1. Glocks are made in Austria

2. Austria just elected a right wing government.

3. Austria has been taking a lot of heat from the liberal and EC press because the original right wing leader made some statements which where construed as pro-nazi.

4. The cops in the Diallo shooting used Glocks.

I can see the headlines now:

"Evil Austrian Nazi Glocks kill Innocent Immigrants!"

or

"Studies show that most shootings happen with EVIL AUSTRIAN NAZI GLOCKS!!!!!!"

The media will whip the populace into a frenzy, and within two weeks Bill Klinton will be firing 60 million dollars worth of cruise missles at the Glock factory, and the 82nd airborne will be parachuting into Vienna, to restore democracy. Of course A-day will happen right before Bill is supposed to be indicted for some other crime.
 
Yeah, when glocks came out the media jumped on the story big time. Invisible plastic guns make firearms more dangerous!
A pistol is a pistol short and sweet. These uneducated people probably think when they get new tires there’s only one kind. There are at least 20 different kinds of potatoes in the world but to them the one on the plate is the only one that exists. Soap operas and tabloid papers rule their world while the rest of the universe revolves around them. Not trying to put down soaps or tabloids but when they become reality it’s gone too far. Hey I’m not the brightest bulb in the lamp but I find it interesting that I can out-shine these sheeple wanna-bees.
