I have carried since I was a cop many years ago.. I normally carry my colt .38 detective special with hollowpoint +P loads when I have to go to NY City.. I was recently told that hollowpoints are not legal in NY is this true ?? If so, What is the best defensive load? thanks Bob Ross (presite3@msn.com)

The hollow points are legal in NYC, but the gun you carry them in may not me. :( Where and when were you on the job?

For years the NYPD were not allowed to carry hollowpoints in their pistols. This was recently changed I believe. I am not aware of any restrictions on ammo for civilians but that doesn't mean there aren't any. Why not get in touch with the NYPD and ask someone who knows for sure.

why were the NYPD not allowed to carry HP in their pistols? For that matter why does NJ forbid HP? The decrease the chance of overpenetration don't they and they are more effective stopping round. (of course THE question to ask is why do those blue states do any of the things they do regarding guns? )

If you have a carry permit from a county in NYS other than NYC I don't believe it is recognized by NYC. NYC police switched to JHP a few years back because innocent bystanders were being wounded by ball ammo that had penetrated bad guys and continued down the street.

The NYPD wasn't allowed to carry HP's because somebody thought they were politically incorrect. You know, those big mean bullets look scary even though they reduce the risk to bystanders. Rules made by the ignorant. BTW, Good Hillary joke :D

Bill

It can't be a blonde joke cuz Hillary ain't blonde! The roots, that is. So you could say it is a little Hillary bashing... ;) :D :D
