IS Commerce, MJ and Guns

So is it just me or did the SC just open up the door for throwing out local (state and city level) gun restrictions under the interstate commerce laws?

I'm guessing the case where SC ruled fed laws regarding marijuana(illegal) trump state medical marijuana(legal) laws because of the impact on interstate commerce.

I'm not a lawyer, but it seems that it would have no effect on state and local gun restrictions. So state AWBs, magazine restrictions, and handgun bans would still be in effect. All states are already following federal restrictions on transfers and things of that nature. So, if the federal government decided to ban private person-to-person sales, it would then trump state laws allowing them. But I don't really see that happening anytime soon.

They are saying that every State must ban pot whether they want to or not, so I think a gun analogy would be for them to say that every State must ban guns whether they want to or not.

They are saying that federal law is enforceable whether or not the states ban drugs. There's a difference. Nothing in the decision suggests that in the absence of a federal law, currently outlawed drugs would have to be illegal in all states.
