Is Colt off anyone's S___ list?

With Colt's joining the lawsuit against the gov't and refusing to sign onto Klinton's deal, are it now considered a RKBA friendly company? I know Colt is only doing it to save their LE sales options but it is doing something that assists us.

I know a few people who say they'll go back to Colt. I'm not one of them. When the stockholders fire that SFB Zilkha and get quality back to where it used to be, fine.

I just had to go out and buy one after I found out about their lawsuit..., does that answer your question?

Anarchism: The radical notion that I am the sole authority when it comes to deciding what's best for me.

In retrospect, it seems to me that Colt's was mainly making bad business decisions (SOP for Colt's) rather than surrendering to the anti-gunners. The latter view was pushed by the media, but Colt's answered most of my questions in their news releases, which for some reason I tend to believe. For instance:

http://www.colt.com/colt/html/n_news_4_.html

After S&W knifed us in the back (funny that a gunmaker would use a knife), Colt's started looking pretty good by contrast. Then, when Colt's spoke out against S&W's pact with the devil, almost but not quite all was forgiven. I still can't disregard Colt's massacre of its own product line, whatever the motivation.

However, in a way, the matter is kind of academic. For months the local gunshop has received practically nothing made by Colt's. The dealer says that his wholesalers simply have nothing from this manufacturer, and he doesn't even know if it's financially capable of producing and shipping anything right now. End of temptation!

My $0.02. :)

From the days of Sam Colt, our company has been a manufacturer of classic and collectable firearms. Our products are expensive, of the highest quality and not the "weapons of choice" that are regularly found at crime scenes.

It's nice of Colt to demonize another class of guns in an attempt to save it's own neck. And "Saturday Night Specials" are not the weapons of choice among felons...quality guns are. I'm sure that more than a few thousand people have been murdered with Colt's "classic and collectable" firearms.

They are not worth the price! Worked a gun show over the weekend for a friend and he received 10 guns from the factory. Anaconda's and Python's, about $900. Pocket Pony's and Mustang's, $500. Gold Cup, $1,000. AR's are $1400 and up. If you want to waste some cash, go ahead. If you want my dealer's name, I want a finder's fee. :) Seem to have some cash to burn, I can use some.

Hey, I was just asking! I sold my only Colt because it was a piece of crap (Pony Pocketlite from the Custom Shop no less).

Robert--too true! The last new 1991A1 that my dealer received before Colt's changed its product line would have sold for $449 six months ago. He now wants $599 for it! Way too much and definitely not a temptation. However, I don't know how much of this massive price increase is Colt's and how much is the dealer's.

No not in my book. I still have 3 Colts as collectors. Always thought they were over priced to start with. If I find a good deal on something used I won't refuse it if I like it :)

Bought a brand new Mustang last Nov. Slide wouldn't lock back right. Returned to factory for repair. Came back worse, plus the rear sight was loose enough to fall out.

Wrote nasty letter with pictures comparing "new" colt with my two "older" Colt .380's fit and finish.

Result: Colt has promised a full refund of the gun's price. (No check yet.)

Would I buy another new Colt? Very doubtful.

I just bought a 1991A1. Its my first 1911. I was a little leary of buying a Colt for political reasons and because of all the posts regarding their poor quality, but I did it anyway. So far I guess I got lucky. It shoots extremely well and I haven't had so much as a failure to feed or a jam in the first 100 rounds. I like it. It was also cheaper than any other new 1911 I found except for a Charles Daly.

They were never on my s___list. Why should they be? The only Colt I happen to own is a 1908 Vest Pocket Auto because I don't happen to like their guns better than something else that is on the market, but it is not because I think badly of them. So what they dropped production of DA guns. They stopped making the 2000 and Double Eagle and there weren't many complaints.

Jimmy, your dealer (and perhaps his distributor) are the ones gouging. Supposedly our bitching and threats got colt to NOT abandon the 1991 line. Glad they signed onto the counter suit.. still wish schumer's pal wasn't in charge of the company. But they have at LEAST earned a reprieve.

Thinking about a new colt commander or full sized 1991.

Problem is that a lot of gun owners, shooters and such have memories that are altogether to short.

Colt's management made the bad decisions, and the management is unchanged, correct me if I'm wrong. Colt in effect, told its civilian customers to "get lost". O.K., I got lost, and am not especially interested in finding the way back to Colt, at least not without a significant change in their management/ownership. Others can, of course, do as they like.

No , not friendly....neutral and making bad decisions. Their only concern is their bottom line and they have lost many customers because of cutting manufacturing costs at the expense of quality. A purchaser of Colts buying the name ; nothing more.
They tarnished the name and now their trying to shine it up.

They have just improved thier position one spot on the list--now filled by S&W.

alan, you are wrong. Colt never said that they were going to stop sales to civilians. That was a newspaper article in the WSJ that got the rumors flying, it was not from Colt. Colt did stop production of guns that were not profitable (mainly because the quality was so bad that they were getting them back for rework under warranty) or they were involved in litigation over patent infringement with Kahr. As I have said before, no one claimed Colt was a sellout when they stopped making the 2000 or the Double Eagle so why now? I think too many people believe what they read in the paper without looking for the truth.
