Is CCW in San Diego even a possibility?

Hi Folks,
I just moved from L.A. to San Diego and am wondering if the CCW climate is any better down here. Perhaps with less traffic everyone here is a little more mellow than in the megalopolis to the north, and therefore more reasonable. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I moved to S.D. area in 1985 from U.S.V.I.
and went down to apply for ccw, I was told
frankly by the officer behind the counter
that I could certainly apply ( for 25$ at the
time ), but unless I were a doctor, or
lawyer, or other with " compelling reason"
there was lass tha zero chance of issuance-
and the fee was non-refundable! And no,
things haven't gotten any better. I have trouble with my feet and legs and about 15%
lung function (asbestosis) and can't RUN
50 feet! What the hell am I supposed to do?
Sorry for the rant. crankshaft

I've been told that SD County issues more CC licenses than most places in CA, but its not easy by any means. Let me know if you're succesful.

By the way, does anyone know what happened to the proposal in Lemon Grove (SD suburb) for the Chief of Police to issue CC, bypassing the sheriff? They seemed to feel it was legal to do this.

My understanding is that the SD Sheriff has a fairly liberal (by S.CA standards) issue policy. I'll try to find something to post...

Update: Maybe not so liberal. You ahve to show "good cause". Read about it at their website:

LEGAL AUTHORITY

The authority to carry a concealed weapon is set forth in California Penal Code Sections 12050-12054. These sections state in part:

12050 PC Issuance

(a)
The sheriff, ... upon proof that the person applying is of good moral character, that good cause exists for the issuance, and that the person applying is a resident of
the county, may issue ... a license to carry concealed a pistol, revolver, or other firearm ...
(b)
A license may include any reasonable restrictions or conditions which the issuing authority deems warranted, including restrictions as to the time, place, and
circumstances under which the person may carry a concealed firearm.

To comply with the requirements of the applicable Penal Code sections, San Diego Sheriffs Department has established the following guidelines.
