I have never owned a Benelli but I have been thinking about buying one. So my question is Benelli really the Ferrari of the shotgun world

IF so is Remington the "camaro"and Mossberg the "Mustang" of the shotgun world?

I would think Remington as the Honda Civic and Mossberg as a Toyota Camry (there not american but you get the idea).

I'd think the real Ferrari of the shotgun land would be a Perazzi. Hideously expensive but an astonishing example of the breed.

Really, though, comparing shotguns to cars is doomed to failure. Both markets are just too complex to compare directly.

Beretta Holding, also owns Beretta USA, Benelli, Franchi, SAKO, Stoeger, Tikka, Uberti, the Burris Optics company and a twenty per cent interest of the Browning arms company.

I think they are very good guns, but not the Ferraris of the shotgun world.

I would say Kolar, Perazzi, Krieghoff, and Perazzi are the Ferraris of the shotgun world.

These guns can easily top $25,000.

+1 on what TimT said ..... but buy one anyway. I have a Benelli SuperSport semi auto ( actually I have 3 of them / 2 in 12ga, 1 in 20ga ) - they retail for around $ 1,850 and I think they're great guns..

But if you have $ 35K lying around, I would look at a Krieghoff K-80 .....

Over the years I have had the opportunity to shoot and hunt with a few different models of Beneilli’s, some owned by family and others owned by friends. I wasn’t that impressed, damn sure not enough to run out and buy one. While it is a fine shotgun most of their sales pitch is just hype, like many other gun manufacturers......... Caveat emptor.

On top of Tim's choices, I would add Fabbri, Bertuzzi, FAMARS, and Beretta SO series - at least from Italy.

From Austria, Add Peter Hofer and Phillipp Ollendorf

From England and Scotland, add David Mackay Brown, Boss, Purdey and H&H

These guns typically START at $75,000 to $100,000

Some members of my family own Benellis and brag considerable about them. Personally, I think they are overpriced, but decent quality guns. I just don't see how I can pay $1500 for a gun when a $700 Remington is just as reliable. Both will go bang. The Benelli shooter may feel that he has a better product. If both of them are equally reliable, why the huge price? To pay for the ads? Prestige?

My nephew thinks his gun is better than mine. I have been using mine over 50 years without a failure or problem. How can his Benelli be better? Tell me so that I can educate my nephew.

Well to stay home brewed (with some mexican parts) They both can be described as the Chevy Vega GT and the Ford Maverick GT... Which is which you ask? Don't much matter, each was only better in the eyes of the brand loyal feller's eyes! Much like the guns!:D

The one's I've shot would fall under the Chevy Nova category. They work sometimes, but are mighty hard to keep running.

I have had a SBE for many years. I like it for hunting use. But, in a round of sporting clays it is likely to gum up to the point it will not cycle. Could be cheap shells. It likes to be clean.

I shoot clays with a guy who has a Benelli. It doesn't impress me one bit. And I do know this; my $400 Tristar hits more birds than his Benelli. I don't know if it's him, or if it's the gun, but what I do know is that I think his gun is extremely hard to get comfortable with. He's constantly changing chokes and making this excuse and that. It just KILLS him that I outshoot him with my cheap as hell Turkish gun :D

I have never seen anyone with a tristar or any other cheap gun at any tournament, let alone winning a tournament with one. I have never seen a tristar, or any other cheap gun last the way a Browning, Beretta or Benelli does....let alone a Perazzi, Kreighoff, or Kolar.

Seems odd to me that if they were so great, you would see more of them at these shoots.

Hey load, re-read my post. I said MY gun in MY HANDS happens to shoot better than this guy I shoot with and his Benelli. That's all I said. Did I ever suggest a Tristar should be in any competition or anything else? Did I proclaim a tristar is a great gun?? We go out for fun, it's not a competition, and for whatever reason I hit more birds than the guy with the Benelli. Jesus man, read and pay attention next time.........

The Beretta 390/391 series is the semiauto the rest are judged by. The Benellis are good guns with a very good marketing strategy. Their operating system is very simple and pretty reliable with all but the lightest loads, but they kick a little harder than a gas gun.

And I do know this; my $400 Tristar hits more birds than his Benelli.

That was your comment. The implication I got from that was that you were touting your tristar as a better-made gun. If your gun fits YOU and his does not fit him, then he will not do well.

You might try asking him if hes has used the shims to better adjust his stock for a better fit.

I have bested folks in 5-stand with my cheap Savage/Fox SxS - but no way am I going to claim it's a great gun or that I am a great shot. That particular gun just seems to fit me
