Is a 20 gauge suitable for deer hunting "more"

im looking into a remington 870 from walmart seeing as how I work there and i can get 20% off of 1 item for christmas, and i wasnt thinking about a 20 gauge until i saw the rem 870 but also there was the remington 11-87 with deer barrel 12 gauge but its semi auto and ive heard mixed reviews over which is better semi autos or pumps,semi-autos tend to get jammed up and pumps can just be all out brutal on the shoulder

then on top of that there is the mossberg 835 deer/turkey combo i just dont like the ugly camo that comes on it so i was just gonna get the 835 with the woodland camo and just get the rifled slug barrel with the woodland camo a little bit more money but if it serves the purpose its may be worth the $$

and if absolute worst came to worst i would just get the rem 870 deer and the 835 turkey and get a much better choke

soooooo many choices its giving me a migraine

i would get the rem 870 in either 12ga or 20ga rifled, and just buy a smooth bore for that gun later on down the road

I shoot a Remington Wingmaster smoothbore from 1983 with a modified barrel. It loves Winchester Rifled Slugs and shoots dead on at 50 yards and I can judge it out to 150 yards.

Practice is what it takes.

A 20 gauge is more than enough to take down a deer, you just need to know the limits.

If your not interested in Remington perhaps a Benelli Nova Pump action for around $299-$315.

Perhaps a Winchester Model 1300, I'm not sure if Walmart can order these or not but they are all good guns.

I owned a Mossberg 835 ultimag in 12 gauge and it was a great gun as well. Just can't fire slugs through it without a slug barrel. (so that may make it out)

good luck and happy hunting

i shoot a remington 870 wingmaster from the mid 70's, but i would never think about running slugs through it. can't afford to at 8$/box of 5 slugs. go rifled. 3$ a box of 5. plus they are more accurate. you can get an 870 in 20ga rifled, then buy a smooth bore or visa versa. but i'm with yankee. 20ga is all you need to kill a deer. rifled with a scope is the way to go in my opinion.
