I have an old (about 5-7years) Remington 870 shotgun that I have been thinking about making into a defense gun. It is a youth model I beleive because it has a 20" or 21" barrel. I also have a Remington 11-87SPS that I used to hunt with but unfortunatly my hunting days have come few and far between. I have also been thinking about makeing this into a defense gun but I would have to buy a different barrel because it has a 26" barrel. My only hangup with making this my SD shotgun is that a new barrel would be about half the cost of what I can get a used Mossberg 500 for. Any way is a 20ga. ok for a defensive shotgun? I would think it would be easier to controll and at the distance you would be using it I wouldnt think there would be much difference between a 20 and a 12. So what do you think?
