Iron Sights & Visibility

Most of my handguns have iron sights... some have the serrated blade front sight. Looking for suggestions on how to make them more visible.

I've tried using a toothpick to apply the flourescent-orange paint to the serrations, and it's ok... but wondering if there is a better solution that folks have come up with.

Thanks in advance.

Costs Dinero

But Night Sights (Tritium) are well worth the money and are awesome. I love how they allow me to locate my gun in the dark as well as tell which way it is oriented. I went with Trijicon.

For low light situations, or even against a dark background (tree knots are one of my favorite targets here on the farm), I use white typewriter fluid applied with a toothpic. It holds up well to holster wear and comes off with a fingernail when you want the black look again.

For combat distances from arms length to 15 yards, on my carry guns, I've come to like the white dots...two on the rear, one on the front...I've got 'em on all my autos, save one. But to be honest, my S&W M-36 with its 3 inch bbl, was new long before white dot or night sights were available. It still wears the black irons with a daub of white correction fluid on the front...it's my day to day carry gun

I went with a fiber-optic sight set It stands out very well, doesn't need batteries is no bigger than the originals & automatically adjusts to be brighter than the surroundings.
After seeing how well the red front sight worked I added a green rear sight & it got even better.

Fingernail Polish

Me cheap-o solution to the fact that I was having a hard time locating the front sight post quickly upon draw on my XD9 Service (4' barrel, about 6" between sight posts) in a way I wasn't with the XD9 subcompact or my Kahr PM9 was my wife's pink nail polish. I compared a few that she had to find the one that "popped" the most against my rear factory sights. I put on two (maybe three?) layers, then added a layer or two of clear coat. I've had it that way for a few weeks now with regular holstering and reholstering and have had no problems. Plus, a finger nail or nail polish remover would take it off in a matter of seconds. Plus, the applicator brush that comes in the bottle is easy to use. Come to think of it, I'll have to look for glow-in-the-dark nail polish some time. Two colors with front and rear posts being different ought to show up well.

Also, I haven't tried these, but they look promising. Might take up a lot of space in your sight picture, but they seem pretty easy to use.

Range guns are left stock, whether they have all black or 3 dot sights. Anything I carry or compete with, have either night sights, fiber optics front or neon green paint front.

Its a big problem...

Night sights are ok ...on my semi-autos ...and there are lots of varieties out there .../ its what I favor on my "tactical guns".

I have gone to fibre-optic on a revolver...and I do like it. I think right now...it might be a little too distractive on a tactical gun ...but they're getting better..and I expect to see some improvements in them in a few years.

I have one red-dot ...and its not bad either ...but I don't find it very quick to acquire a target. I think its ok on a target gun. I am seeing a few on tactical guns ....but I just don't thing going down that path is a great idea yet.

I've come to prefer a plain black rear sight with a wide notch and a gold bead in the front sight.

Awesome ideas... I knew I'd get some excellent suggestions. White Out, Fingernail polish and gold beads! I'll give 'em a shot and see what works best. Thanks fellas.

GI... Yes.
Settled on the most obnoxious pink or orange nail polish I could find (not too hard nowadays) for the front sight. So far, seems to work fairly well.

Thanks for following up!
