So he arrested them for what? Walking down the street? Being there and being US soldiers? Nice comments by that bunch of....ok, decor dictates I stop here.

Reading further into the comments, it's a clown college.

Definitely a clown college.

All I can say is I'm glad that my blood is free of that particular taint.

Unfortunately, it's not free of the French taint... Sigh.

"Mike, I thought you were a better man than that."

I'm just a odious prick who has absolutely no fear about calling things exactly as I see them.

"One loon."

Really? Try reading some of the ancillary blogging that accompanied the story.

Looks like a whole flock of loons somehow came to roost.

What if (for example) a group of uniformed Irish soldiers was found wandering around
a U.S. town?

What would your reaction be then?

F.

Well, I won't sleep well tonight. Never could understand what people found funny about clowns. They're just disturbing ...

Sweeping, unneccesary characterizations of entire nations aside, I don't quite see what the fuss is about. The individual tried to perform some sort of ridiculous citizen's arrest to make a political point, and his attempt was shut down by the authorities; maybe somebody more versed in Irish law can clarify what happened here. Aside from that, a number of people hitched their wagons to a clearly biased news account basically saying they don't like current US policy in Iraq. Europeans voicing disapproval of US policy in Iraq ... not exactly groundbreaking news.

"What if (for example) a group of uniformed Irish soldiers was found wandering around a U.S. town?"

I would do what I always do... Ignore them and let them go about their business.

I can't even begin to tell you just how many uniforms of the world I've seen in "my town" over the years. You see, "my town" is Washington, DC, metro, land of the diplomat/military legation.

I see British, French, and German officers pretty regularly.

A few days ago several British and German air force officers came through my office on a tour.

I've also seen uniforms of other military forces. Columbia, Peru, Brazil, POSSIBLY Japan Israel.

I ignore them all.

Why?

They're not bothering me.

With much of my ancenstry being Irish allow me to state that the country indeed appears to have become a clown college. I am, perhaps for the first time, embarrassed by my blood. At least there's no French taint, though... :D

After reading the article, and more importantly the accompanying comments, it is my considered opinion that the departure from Ireland of my intrepid ancestors and their cohorts caused an irreparable drain on the remaining population's intelligence.

Thanks to refering to my heritage as a "taint". Goes to show that trolling is not limited by post count.

What happened there is inexcuseable, but denegrating an entire race? That is just ignorant.

Mike Irwin: Reading further into the comments, it's a clown college.
One could say the same thing about our nation reading Democratic Underground.

That said, who cares about this? It's one guy being a jerk and getting ignored by the police. <yawn>

You can definitely tell that the BBC and other propaganda outlets are getting their message across the region.
